Still waiting on a new edition of Duck Fighter Illustrated.

The episode where Jerry becomes a mailman is one of my personal favorites. It's no "Contest" or "Festivus", I'll grant you, but I love it.

I think Race and I go back to 99 on the old Rivals boards.

Yeah sure, but no body gives a fuck about you.

Race was the first online UW fan I remember appreciating and consistently looked forward to reading his posts. This is embarrassing to say but he was the reason I purchased a doogman subscription with my hard-earned theme park summer job money (lmaooo). I felt like I was being gaslit by most of the fandom, leadership, and other students about football success being unrealistic -- until I saw Race savagely attack Griswold and some of his enablers about being WASHINGTON. Total formative moment there to learn I wasn't being hysterical about wanting to get back to winning and competing for ships etc. I was an impressionable sophomore who was completely flummoxed at how UW either gave zero shits about football or worse yet -- seemed to actively try to kill it. With a traveling parent, I was often raised by VHS tapes of the glory days. My mom realized she didn't need to hire a sitter because I would be all fucking in on watching CFB no matter the circumstance lmao. I probably watched every '91 game 50 times in my youth.

In the mid-2000s I was starting to get into online CFB forums. DM was like an episode of Black Mirror with all of the self-loathing gibberish and @He_Needs_More_Time type posts. People defending Willingham. Mods saying I and others like me were too unrealistic and that times had changed. Our literal AD openly said we should try to emulate Oregon and was shocked that people demanded wins. I was elected to some silly student council-type position and got to work with Todd himself for 2-3 times a month. He looked at me like an alien in the only conversation about football we ever had, when I innocently (I swear lol) asked him how he defined success for his coaches. It was Race by far whose posts read like exultations toward my soul to keep the faith and never turn to apathy. Yale was next and he was still there by the time I got banned and Race left.

So come 2007 I am convinced that we need to fire Willingham after year 3 (no shit) to literally save the program or damn it forever. So yeah, all of the Mora hype then was like DEFCON 1 for me. I was not active in the cake bullshit, mostly lurked, but intensely followed the entire thing. I would fall asleep to a mp3 rip I made of the Mora KJR interview saying he'd leave a Super Bowl run with the Falcons to take the UW job. That shit was so validating haha. I was/am such a nut I took breaks from GRE and GMAT prep and dragged my poor then-GF to Schmidt Hall to formally start a student petition to fire Willingham. I was rejected on the spot and escorted out of the building like a troublemaker. True story. I did some serious introspection and probably should have given up the dream for my health's sake, but honestly it was Race's hilarious (and intelligent) diatribes that reminded me that I was on the right side of the divide. It may have been the losing side in terms of 1994-2014 results, but we were fighting to restore the program to our rightful place. Like a really dorky Brutus or even ol' Captain Mal.

Hmm my post packs way more homoerotic tension than I originally planned, I swear. That or this reads like an eulogy lmao. Never meet or learn more about your heroes, kids. First it was Mel. Then Race. Now Kanye. Sigh 😂

    tl;dr winners win get fucked

Loved this. Thanks for the lore POTY
