I know it’s not REAL punk rock, but still good music. Probably the best album they’ve ever put out. Plus, my favorite song on the album has a lyric about dousing yourself in gasoline.

College freshman DDJ loved Blink-182. I haven’t had any desire to check out this new album but I’ll now give it a try.

My band did a lot of blink covers back in middle school. Chicks dug it.

My college band of row peter puffers only played AC/DC, Stones, Nirvana, CCR and Skynyrd covers.

You could get beat up in those days for covering Blink 182.

My middle school band was called Quasar. (We actually had multiple bands).

Unlike your cover band, we had all original material.

I wrote a song called "Space Age Cage", about a guy floating through space trapped in a cage.

Also wrote a song called "Rock and Roll Party in the Gutter" about a guy who was so drunk he couldn't stand up. So he just laid there in the gutter enjoying the music.

Beats the hell out of Blink 182 covers.

I didn’t know (or forgot) that you were in a band, Yella. Makes sense as you’re such a music aficionado.

Yeah, you’re a few years older than me, and Blink 182 didn’t hit their stride until I got to college, so you were wise to keep them off your set list.

I would LOVE to get into a Time Machine to hear young Stalin and Quasar perform.

Do you still have any recordings of your songs?

    Was it technically gifted songwriting?

I never said we didn’t have original material. We put out two demos and started playing clubs in the 8th grade. Chicks dug that too.

I’ve was in a band from middle school until end of College. Played a lot of different stuff from The Yardbirds, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, BTO, to even Willie Nelson. Also some fun originals. We had a good sound for a while, but everyone went their different ways in college and came back with very different musical styles. Never really clicked again. I think the last time we played was at my house. We didn’t start until about 11:30 PM and were loud as crap. Still shocked that the cops didn’t show up. It was fun.

With God as my witness, the chorus went... "Space Age Cage, got me stuck.... totally forgotten, fresh outta luck... yeah!"

We used a painting of a quasar that I cut out of a Carl Sagan book. I took the book to school to show something to my science teacher, and he saw the cut out page and was totally beside himself why I would desecrate a beautiful hardcover book for creating a cassette cover.

You and some guys from school? Try-hards. First Timmy quit then when Jody got married, that was it.

I used the term "band" loosely. There was a group of 4 row peter puffers who played a few house parties and did all Nirvana, Sabbath and AiC covers. I went and spent $600 on an Epiphone Casino Sunburst from Musicians Friend (cause that's what John and Paul played in 1966- 67). It's was a shitty made in Korea guitar but still.

I promptly told the fellas I was joining as the rhythm guitar player and that grunge is for fags (hi @dnc ) and that we were going to be a classic rock cover band. A few more house partied ensued and then we graduated and the band broke up. I still jam with the lead guitarist and bass player to this day when ever we cross paths.

I’m the drummer (give the drummer some), and I play with the lead guitar player (best friend during HS) again as our paths have crossed here in Idaho. Crazy. Anyway, I don’t like the music he likes too much, it’s boring and he rarely solos anymore. But it fun to get together and jam.

The bass player moved to Alaska and I haven’t talked to him in awhile. I should reach out as he moved back to Washington.
