Playing not to lose...

He said that he thought UW was playing the game to not "show all their cards."
It's a very "let's just get out of here with a win, who cares how" mentality...
I mean look at the Arizona game... what sort of a team goes up 14 w. basically a full quarter to play and pulls every defensive starter in favor 3rd and 4th stringers?
Today... they go for run plays on 1st and 2nd down in basically every new set against a defense who can't cover the pass and an offense who Furd can't stop... They refuse to bring any extra pressure on defense against a QB who took every check down available to him after sitting there clean in the pocket for 10 seconds.
If this announcer isn't correct, what explains the lack of adjustments at all through out a game?
It felt like they started passing more when they knew they had to rather than it being the identity of their offense... who does that?
It felt like they were comfortable rushing 3 and 4 all game... what sort of team in today's CFB landscape doesn't want to bring pressure?
It's so fucking weird.

The simplest explanation is that they can’t (won’t) do those things because they don’t believe that they’ll be successful. At some point Trice and ZTF need to actually show the fuck up to the game.

Except that they're not really being successful doing what they're doing and ZTF/Trice are having a hard time getting home because they have 0 help. -
Weird game, spent a bunch of the game bitching about poor execution on offense with my father in law who is a @GrundleStiltzkin potato seed eating Irish fan. Then you finish with 40+ points and have to bitch about the defense.

I don’t buy it. You’re 8 games into the season. You’re not risking losing to cellar rats to save something for USC.
-
These announcers also said we shared the NC with Georgia Tech before correcting it for Colorado.

I don't buy it either...TheHB said:I don’t buy it. You’re 8 games into the season. You’re not risking losing to cellar rats to save something for USC.
But it just screams that it's true given the 8 consecutive series where they ran on 1st and 2nd down.
Only other explanation is that Penix isn't 100%... but then what explains how well he threw it when they took the shackles off the offense? -
I didn’t see anything that would make me believe Penix isn’t OK. He may not be 100%, but who is?

He's a different QB when facing pressure up the middleTheHB said:I didn’t see anything that would make me believe Penix isn’t OK. He may not be 100%, but who is?

That’s on DeBoer to fix. It isn’t rocket surgery.DerekJohnson said:

Bill Bellichick plays not to lose. Although I don’t understand the maths he won a couple super bowels.

8D chess. I love that theory. Get back to me on this after they go 0-4.BroadcastingDawg said:Even though the announcers were total morons in this game, one of them made an interesting point.

Yeah, not showing your cards is something Peterson did against Rutgers and SW Idaho Tech or whatever. I didn't have a huge problem with it. It's pretty late in the season to be holding back, and Stanford, while bad, has enough talent to stay with UW as seen earlier.TheHB said:I don’t buy it. You’re 8 games into the season.
