In 2022, ESPN offered a new TV deal worth $30m per school

https://www.on3.com/news/espn-pac-12-conference-tv-contract-deal-negotiations-george-kliavkoff/

Pac-12 schools said "no, we want $50m".

ESPN left.

Imagine Cuog thinking $30m is too low for their value and thinking they're in the range of $50m. They should've taken it. Guess we'll find out what their value is really worth soon.

If the LA schools don't leave could they have landed a 50 mil deal? Kick Utah and Colorado out, and they were probably guaranteed that kind of money.

    Fuck USC as always.

Sounds like *we? dodged a bullet there. The $30m deal would've been an anchor, the national perception of PAC 10 football wouldn't have improved and probably would've kept spiraling, and UW and UO would've been worse off in the long run than what we ended up with.

It's funny because this comedy of errors eventually led to the best outcome. I guess the actual best would be getting a full share in the big 10 from the get go, but still.

Same for the 4 corner schools.

After ESPN told the Pac-12 to fuck off, they negotiated with the Big 12 that pro-rata clause that any P5 team could join the conference at $31.7m

So Arizona, ASU, Ute, and CU all said "we want 50m", and when nothing happened, they were able to fall back on the original $30m-ish deal

8 of the 12 schools are doing better off and making more money then they ever would have in the Pac-12

I bet USC knew this. I wonder how long they were playing 4D chess?

My guess is the Pac with USC probably gets a 35-45 million dollar deal from ESPN in early 2023 before the wheels fell off. Then they could have scratched out another 10-15 from selling Apple the P12 network gear and content. A thriving USC, a competent UCLA, DeBoer led UW, Nike U, Deion Sanders and everyone’s favorite try hard Utah would have been a good P5 conference until CFB exploded. Fuck USC forever. 45-60 million would have made everyone highly competitive. Or even better, weigh the ESPN money on who gets picked for the games. Then the rich her even richer. Such fags J.

This was being report by flugaur and the Monty show late last year. Clownzano and the rest of the west coast blowhards are only more than 6 months behind.

The Big 12 only survived because the Pac 12 killed itself.

    So far. Give it tim.

Agree. If USC and UCLA hadn’t jumped, the Big 12 wouldn’t have gotten all the Pac12’s ESPN money, and they’d be sucking off Apple for crumbs while the other conferences circle like vultures waiting to pick the carcass.

Right, the pro-rata clause in the Big 12 contract meant that any Pac-12 school could always fall back on the Big 12 if the Pac-12 couldn't get anything higher.

It couldn't, and everyone got a lifeboat.

Well, almost everyone got a lifeboat
