So I spent 150$ on Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

new controller (kids spilled bullshit on the other ones)

Have complete like 20+ puzzles. yawn.

3 year old goes and fires a fire arrow into some goblins who are alerted and promptly go kill us.

What is the point of this game?

What am I missing here?

I played a bit of Xbox 360 with my son way back in the day. By the time the newer Xbox 1 came out I wanted to be as far from him and that shit as possible while it was turned on. It's shit as fuck, seizure inducing chaos to my old eyes.

If I'm being honest, I would suck ass at video games these days with the 25 buttons on the controllers. I could get down with some original NES once in a while, but only to relive my youth for 30 minutes playing Tecmo Bowl or some shit like that.

    Throbber is OG gamer.

Pong. Then Super Pong. Had the first Nintendo system in the mid 80s. Kept up on it through about 2008’ish or whenever the Wii came out.

Haven’t played for a few years but still have a system at the lake. Looking forward to busting it out when all the adult kids gather and kick their asses in Monkey Ball and Mario Cart and any other cartridge Mrs Throbber v2.0 hasn’t thrown in the garbage yet.

My son's been asking for a VR rig for three years now, and we decided this would be the first Christmas at which he actually got what he wanted, so I researched the best setup and ponied up for a Valve Index. I thought VR would be stupid, as it seems gimmicky, all of the games are things like Beat Saber or whatever, and the graphics all suck. It's what he wants, so we'll get it, but I didn't see the point.

The night before Christmas, I set up the tombstones and preinstalled Half Life Alyx (comes with that game) so we'd have a head start in the morning. He opens the (giant) box and freaks out, and it's time to play around with it. Everyone has a go, then it's my turn. HOLY SHIT! This was not the gimmicky, lame graphics experience I expected at all! My pussy ass son is too scared to play Half Life, preferring the gimmicky games, but I ended up staying up late for the rest of my vacation to beat Half Life. I've since played it all the way through again, and it was just as fun. It's easily the most immersive and exciting video game experience, and nothing else comes close. It's an actual game-changer. The only problem is that there's still nothing else like it for VR.

Long story short, I can still enjoy video games as an adult, but it takes a special game that's worth my time. They definitely exist! If you have access to a high-end VR rig and a PC that can handle it, do yourself a favor and try Half Life Alyx. Might change your mind about video games.

Edit: Who am I kidding; anybody here with a VR rig and PC would had straight to PornHub...

After playing through Resident Evil 7 the VR version must be insane. Especially in the main house/basement part of the game.

I doubt it. What makes Half Life Alyx work is that it was made from the ground up to be VR. Everything is modeled and interactive. There are no menus and shit like that to distract you. It's made to work with two hands and that's it. The gravity gloves were also a brilliant way to ease frustration (and prevent me from crashing into a coffee table more than once...). I've played a couple of other AAA games that were ported to VR, and it was more frustrating than good.

I'm pretty stuck with games I can play in front of my kids but Alyx has always looked amazing.

There was nothing nerdy about the OG - Leisure Suit Larry.
