Shriver, who founded an organization called A Woman's Nation that aims to empower women, says many travelers don't realize tipping hotel room attendants is customary.
If people don't realize something is customary...is it customary?
I do this sometimes, but not consistently. And if I do it, it;'s at the end of the stay, not nightly.
Seems like this is an effort to make it more of a money grab..

I leave the "do not disturb" sign up 24/7.
I still tip the maid.

Depends on what you mean by gratutity? If that means a huge man load on the pillow case and some cocaine dust on the coffee table, then yes, I leave a tip. Otherwise, no.

Never except on a cruise

Are we really talking about tipping Motel 6 maids when they aren't kind enough to provide me a towel which was made in this century?
Anyhow, only in some vacation spots or if i left some sort of hellhole for them to clean up. Sorry, this IS your job. Cleaning the room. It's not like i'm tipping for additional services. If i don't tip, will you not change my sheets? -
Tipping is an excuse for the hotel to exploit the labor!!!1111!!111

Isn't exploited labor a cornerstone for any good vacation?RaceBannon said:Tipping is an excuse for the hotel to exploit the labor!!!1111!!111

Again, it's customary? Why, because they said so )everyone says so?)
Can an industry simply decide tipping is customary and guilt people into doing it? Tip your mechanic, it's customary.

Isn't this the new move though? How often can you get through a checkstand without being asked to donate to some cause? I don't see the tipping industry as any different. I think you should be paid a wage and if someone does something above what you feel was the job, then tip them. Don't feel the need to be guilted into tipping them for the job.MikeDamone said:Again, it's customary? Why, because they said so )everyone says so?)
