If passed a proposed bill in Oregon would introduce the first statewide Basic Universal Income pilot program by giving $1,000 a month to people who are homeless and/or low-income.
The $1,000 payments could be used however recipients choose, but proponents say they expect the majority of the money to be used on rent, emergency expenses, food, childcare, or other goods/services the recipient wants.
They are going to buy drugs with the money.

I work with a lot of low income folks and they will be a little more likely to use the money wisely, the homeless will buy drugs. All of them will have their votes purchased by this bill if it’s passed.

Throw in Basic Universal Income with the already existing social security disability payments, welfare, Medicaid, Oregon Health Plan, food stamps (Snap), Section 8 housing, stealing what you want (without consequences) et al. Add essentially the legalization of the possession of all controlled substances.
Prediction: more houseless Oregonians.

I don't want to name drop- but I'm on speaking terms with the manager of the local Publix. He was telling me his employees would get their tax refunds and head to the rental car agency and get the biggest Lincoln/Cadillac SUV they could have for a week.
Why should I believe any universal income would be spent differently? -

I mentioned this a couple of weeks ago- My sister in law took her inheritance and didn't work for 18 months. She got a lot of massages and haircuts but didn't do anything to set herself up for future success. Now she's in even more debt than ever and trapped in her $1,500/month apartment because she can't afford to move. But don't worry, she just took out a title loan while she was between jobs.
