Austin Mack - 2024 QB, Folsom HS

Someone else can confirm but I'd think you get alot less reps as a backup then you would as a hs starter. And if you think the college coaching early is the biggest deal then why aren't more 5* QBs doing this

They are, but some kids love to be wined and dined by teams of adult menCanadawg said:Someone else can confirm but I'd think you get alot less reps as a backup then you would as a hs starter. And if you think the college coaching early is the biggest deal then why aren't more 5* QBs doing this

Things could get a little dicey when the 23 year old 6th year seniors are inviting our 16 year old true freshman qb to participate in running trains on slightly chunky, low self-esteem sorority sluts

I doubt it really made a difference. He still would have sucked.whlinder said:JT Daniels basically was wrecked due to playing big boy football at 17.

he’s got one season of high school football under his belt and he’ll do anything possible to win the game

Jumping the gun is a fucking track and field term. It has nothing to do with violence.Hippopeteamus said:
Some of the suggested replacements don't even mean the same thing. Picking your battles does not exactly mean choose your opportunities, as the latter does not imply a struggle. And feeding two birds with one scone just doesn't make sense. One scone would feed way more than two birds and you would not throw a single scone at a bird to feed it. It is only intelligible if someone already knows what the phrase should be. I think Spangler was just off by a few decades.Canadawg said:CFetters_Nacho_Lover said:

What's going to be better for his prospects: being in high school for another year, or being in our program, learning our offense, and being in our strength and nutrition program? I don't know that he'll be the best option to start in 2024, but he'll be a better option as a RS Frosh with a year in our system than he would be spending another year at Folsom. Dude is skinny and needs rhino cum. I don't love the idea of starting a 17 year old either, but our QB situation is fucked after Penix right now, and we need bodies. Preferably 6'6" athletic bodies with strong arms. I don't see how Mack coming early is a negative in any way.Canadawg said:
That in 2024 we will be relying on a 17 year old RS freshman that won't have played a meaningful down in a year and half? This is stupid. He should play his highschool season and get on campus this time next yearPenace said:This is really good news!

The real question there is will his dads fly?DawgtillDeath said:a year being Penix's shadow, a year being coached by Deboer and Grub, a year in our S&C program, a year running the scout team against our #1 defense. My only concern is will a 16 year old kid get homesick?

The truth is he is needed for fucking depth this season.
-
I'm still hopeful they'll grab an upper classman with some game reps for depth. I'm all for this kid getting signed and sealed early, but I don't like him as the 3rd string guy this season.Penace said:The truth is he is needed for fucking depth this season.

Most transfer QBs want a path to play right away, so it might be a smaller poll for decent QBs who are willing to sit behind Penix for a year to only compete against Morris and Mackchuck said:

There are always some upperclassmen or even grad transfers available who aren't competing for the starting spot at their own school and want a change of scenery.whatshouldicareabout said:

By my count, the Huskies have 89 players on scholarship (not including Mack). I could be off by 1 or 2 but I'm not sure if a 4th QB on scholarship is something they can fit in for 2023. Plus if you are starting your 3rd string QB, whether it's a scholarshiped grad transfer or a walk-on, that probably doesn't bode well for the season.chuck said:.

Meanwhile, Mack can play in 4 games and still preserve his redshirt so he could be an option. -
He's 16. They didn't bring him early for depth. This was their way of locking him in for the next two years minimum. He shouldn't even be at risk of seeing the field this season. That's the point, not that another third stringer is going to save the team.HFNY said:

Not that I was ever attached, but interesting.

Has another vaunted QB Whisperer in DeBoer ever fucking recruited a QB good enough to start anywhere?
-
Who cares?
He got Penix here.
-
Nick Sheridan recruited Penix to Tennessee. Then Penix followed Sheridan to Indiana when the staff at UT was fired. Then Penix came to UW when DeHoer hired Sheridan. DeBoer had the offense Penix loved but Nick Sheridan was his guy.
-
And what difference does that make? Do Buckeye fans care that Day finally won a natty with a transfer QB? Will Bama fans care if Simpson wins one this year? Should LSU forfeit the Burrow natty? What if Texas wins with Manning - will it not count?
The answer is no
113-16.
Ty recruited Locker though. That worked great
-
Come on, man. It's okay to think DeBoer did great things here and is a very good head coach but wonder why he hasn't seemed to be able to identify and sign great QBs (small sample size, but still). I wouldn't be surprised if he would have rather had Haener than Penix in 2022 but our academis bullshit finally worked in our favor for one.
I also just feel like the QB guru shit is always questionable. I remember Tedford supposedly was at Cal but he inherited Boller and then only got Rodgers because he was on tape with a JC TE he was recruiting. Then you have Sark, who has never done much with a QB he has actually had to recruit and develop.
-
Who
Cares
Nobody is winning with qbs they recruited these days
-
Not saying it's not going to change Race but Ohio State last year was the only team other than 2019 LSU to ever win a national title with a transfer QB.
-
Chris Chandler isn't sitting behind Hugh Millen these days. Play me now or someone will pay me now
If an old fuck like me gets that times have changed you should too
In the mini NFL it's just win baby
Lanning has always played transfers. Any duck fans here complaining?
-
No hyped QB's are waiting behind the upperclassmen for 3 years. I'm with Race on this one. Quite honestly, unless the 5-star freshman QB is the obvious starter from day 1, you're probably better off shopping in the portal every two years for the proven free agent commodity.
-
You're not even really debating what I'm talking about, but I bet fans and coaching staffs want the best QB they can get no matter how they get him, but ideally would want a guy they sign out of high school who can start 3-4 years.
Also, I forgot they made Mack leave high school a year early to make up for not closing Kienholz who now appears to not be the guy at Ohio State. It's also questionable as hell if the best QB DeBoer could get for UW in 2024 unless everyone knew he was leaving was Wild Willy Rogers III who was barely even a mini camp NFL guy.
-
Fisch is a great recruiter. Then we hear his assistants suck at recruiting
No one will care that he recruited Demond if he goes 6-7 again
-
You've set up like 8 different sets of goalposts at the point, Race. Demond could never play another down at this point and will have produced more as a QB than any QB Deboer has recruited and signed probably for even at least a few more years.
-
DeBoer quarterback went 25-3
Who cares who recruited him
I haven't moved
Demond is winless so far
-
DeBoer was 10-6 with an NFL QB at Fresno.
DeBoer was 9-4 with an NFL QB at Ala-fucking-bammer.
2022 and 2023 UW was special any way you slice it and KDB was a big part of that. BUT if we’re going to cherry pick stats, DeBoer wasn’t elite as a D1 coach before or after UW and Micheal Penix. Small sample size, I know. I do think KDB will get Alabama good, not sure they’ll be good enough for him to keep his job but 10-2 with playoffs will probably be the norm there.

College football is a feeder program for QBs to audition for big fish programs now (see: last 2 Wazzu QBs). Get used to seeing transfer QBs win natties.
