Why Can't Johnny Read

The book was published in phucking 1955 and was an indictment of the "modern" failure of the "See and Say" method of teaching reading versus the historical tried and true phonics method. So, almost 70 years later, school districts are still messing around with teaching kids to read using raw memorization instead of sounding out the words. If we only had a well-funded public education system that used actual results to determine teaching methods. Just burn it down.

For the life of me I do not understand this. I taught all three of my boys to read well before they were in Kindergarten and trust me, none of my kids are geniuses. I used the same method that was used on me. Phonics. Every meal at the dinner table I used the plastic letters that were attached to the Fridge to have them sound out letter combination. Go through all the OY, AT, AD combination words and so on. They all read at or above grade level their entire time in school. Why would you stop using something that works? Well, we read and understood the Mueller Report and also the Great Barrington Declaration. We also know that phonics is the best way to teach kids to read. That printing money causes inflation. That the border is not closed. The list is endless of things the left doesn't know and reading without comprehension really isn't ready.HHusky said:
