Huh. I've never thought of Oysters on the half shell as pub food.

Seems like something that should fall into a more upscale category. I mean I enjoy them as an appetizer at fine dining establishments.

Appetizer? I can eat spicy wings, celery, and blue cheese all day long. Give me 4 dozen and it's a three course meal with a few leftovers.

The best part is that I don't really have to eat for a couple of days after that. Actually I can't.

Pickled pigs feet used to be a thing way back and had the benefit of freezing your diaphragm to cure hiccups for drunks [tried and true from my working as a bartender @ the Laboheme Tavern on Phinney Ridge for occasional shifts when my Pal’s workers called in sick.]

The other thing that worked well for hiccups for women was to have them close there eyes and tell them to stick out there tongue and wag it… while they are trying that with their eyes closed, you just grabbed their tits and the hiccups would stop immediately.

One other special bar treat - Pickled Eggs - I love those damn things. You can bounce them off the bar and play mini BB into a beer. At a bunch of them with some friends on the way to a basset ball game once. Farts were so bad that the people sitting behind us relocated. We laughed, of course. something about foul farts always makes guys laugh

If you really want to get down in the dirt - pickled sausages are far better than pickled eggs. But you have to be in a nasty dive bar to find either these days.

    Or North Idaho.

    Sausage superiority guy.

Wings are a main event, not a true appetizer.

Calamari is the classier mozzarella sticks, both are great.

Wings, like a quesadilla or nachos, fall into the category of food that is amazing and can be either an appetizer or a meal or sometime abundance.
I like something sweet and hot, like a ginger based sauce, in my appetizer wings. Then I go for the gusto...full blast red hot with blue cheese for the main course.

Did anyone mention clam strips? Good clam strips are the only competition for wings on my big board. The Walking Man brew pub used to serve amazing ones with a curry tartar sauce. No longer though.

I concur and this is where a I disagree with @Doogles . Yes, you feed an army with wings. But they are still appetizer first and foremost.
