Is Lethal Weapon a Christmas movie?

No. Christmas has to be central the plot. Hence, Die Hard is not a Christmas movie either.

That's like asking whether Bonnie Bedelia has nice perkies.
It's in the eye (handful) of the beholder.

Still a great fucking movie, in spite of my being 100% right on this topic.RaceBannon said: -

Um, pretty sure the Christmas party in Die Hard is very central to the plot.YellowSnow said:No. Christmas has to be central the plot. Hence, Die Hard is not a Christmas movie either.

Here's a great Easter movie

It's an action movie that takes place in the setting of an office holiday party. There's not Santa and Christmas theme.CFetters_Nacho_Lover said:

I stand with Yella. I love Die Hard and the Lethal Weapon but they are not true Christmas movies.
Here’s my reasoning:
If you were to set the film’s events during another holiday, would the movie still make sense?
I would argue if Die Hard took place during Super Bowl weekend or New Year’s Eve, it would still be Die Hard. Take a movie like Miracle on 34th Street and remove the Christmas elements and you have an unhinged Race Bannon being taken in by a Macy’s employee for…reasons???
Still, in the spirit of the holiday season I would propose that if people want to call those films Christmas movies, let them. There enough of those that are borderline (think Gremlins, Trading Places, Rocky IV) that we should create a new genre…
Christmas-ish Movie! -
In the 80s the Christmas season was when you released the big movies for maximum ticket sales. That's part of the reason they are Christmas movies
So the inclusion of Christmas stuff was intentional
Star Wars was a summer blockbuster movie series so not a Christmas movie

Good point! Families who are forced back together during the holidays and hated each other could always count on a trip to the movie theater back in the day to take a break from the fighting.RaceBannon said:In the 80s the Christmas season was when you released the big movies for maximum ticket sales. Now that everyone has a smartphone or tablet that’s not necessary.

I mean Lethal Weapon is essentially the same character story. Riggs is suicidal but then rediscovers the joy of Christmas by killing a bunch of drug smuggling mercenaries. Story as old as tim.alumni94 said:
