Bassists never get any love, but the great ones are truly special. Interesting that this list of the top 20 includes all 3 of Metallicas bassists. Not sure I'd have Newsted on there, but Burton and Trujillo are no question 1st ballot HOFers. Metallica has always had an embarrassment of riches in the bass spot. Totally agree with Steve Harris in the top spot, and was surprised to see Les Claypool barely cracking the top 10.
frank Bello is bad ass, and while we all know Lemmy isn't one of the 20 greatest bass players ever, his inclusion is fair because fuck you he is Lemmy.

You’re right Lemmy is Lemmy and he goes anywhere at anytime on any list.
I leave my bias and never ending love of Phil Lynott aside and mention Pete Way is always underrated on these lists -
As the years have gone by, I have developed a great appreciation of John Paul Jones. He was overshadowed by the hype of Page and Bonzo in the GOAT convos, which is deserved. He provided the backbone to many of Zep's greatest, while Jimmy was riffing and posing, and John was thundering...
