Berkshire Hathaway is one of the biggest energy companies in the US and owns several huge regulated electric utilities. In 2021 Berkshire alone had $1.9 billion in energy tax credits for wind and solar power. They are a huge lobbyist for the extension of the "green" energy tax credits that just passed in the "Let's Increase Inflation Act". The way regulated utilities work is that the shareholders are guaranteed an after tax rate of return (currently around 8%) on its investment in utility property. The utility shareholders don't care in what they invest as long as they get paid. So, shutting down a $500 million coal plant and replacing it with a billion dollars of wind and solar is a huge win for the shareholders. It's a big loss to the utility customers and to the reliability of their electricity supply. To increase reliability means lots more expensive transmission lines which of course means more income to the shareholders and paid for by the utility customers.

I'm only behind because I can't keep track of all my auto payments, the cards they're tied to, then you lose a card, etc. Once I get the "hey we're gonna shut off your water/power/internet" letter, I immediately pay them.

I imagine a lot of people are the same. It's all about understanding the data.

Good point. Totally explains why the delinquency rate is going up.

The poverty rate is usually between 12 and 20 percent. 1/6 is 16.666

It only accounts for one person out of 65 million.
