Edgar was. I’ve always felt Junior got an automatic pass when he very easily could have been roiding. I KO ent until proven guilty, but every star but him was supposedly using steroids.

I find it hard to believe that anyone having high end success in that era wasn't taking something. Junior is no exception. No, he never got ripped or any bigger aside from his ass, but not everyone using PED was trying to get big. There are other benefits to be had...reflexes, hand ey coordination, etc.

Edgar's power benefitted from the short right field at the dome and he was clearly frustrated a few times after the move when balls were caught on the track. Just a year or two later his homers became notably longer amd more abundant and he looked bigger. It was pretty obvious.

Means nothing to me. I don't really agree that the game is worse now, but it was undeniably great then and IDGAF if the clear and the cream were the reason for it.

I'm not giving Junior an automatic pass, but I just felt that beautiful swing was going to get homers with or without roids.

I've done a lot of body checks on baseball players over the years, and I feel comfortable in saying that Griffey didn't juice. Steroids have been in baseball since at least the mid-70's, and whatever they are testing for right now, the chemists are 3 steps ahead of the dope police.

My take on it...

A LOT more guys were doing it than were reported, or suspected.

Orgs were encouraging it in their farm systems in the late 80's / early 90's...A friend was asked "Have your got your degree?" When he said yes, the administrator told him "You are gonna use it a lot quicker than you'd like if you don't get on board"...He didn't, and got released. Chicks dig the long ball...

The media revelation of this really fucked it up, IMO. It showed the college and high school kids what's up, with bad consequences for them, some fatal.

To get the benefit of steroids / PED's, you have to train really hard. It speeds up recovery, allowing guys to train with more frequency and intensity.

Steroids have no impact on skill...if you've got no/poor tools, it's not going to improve them. I have heard about HGH improving eyesight, and maybe some factors of proprioception.

My take on the big leaguers is that they are in the entertainment business, to make money for the owners, and themselves…butts in the seats and eyeballs on the screen. I'm not ditching the Stones because Keef was using PED's...
