It seems obvious that the big 10's plan was to ruin the market value of the Pac 12

After the SEC did the same thing to the big 12... this means that the only 2 leagues with contractual value from a TV standpoint are the SEC [EsPN] and the big 10 with Fox...
Now they can take their time to decide what other markets they are interested in. The ACC majors probably to the SEC [especially the Southern Schools] and the big 10 can decide what if anything they might want from the Northeastern and West Coast teams. The real point is that they don't have to do anything right now ~ the objective was to boost the franchise value of the BIG by destroying the market value of the Pac12 in the same way EsPN gutted the big 12 franchise value. Well done, motherfuckers ~ although in truth, the two conferences did it to themselves through lame management ~ the Pac 12 presidents are self aggrandizing idiots.
From a logistical standpoint it does make sense to add some west coast teams to cut down on travel for USC / UCLA and to establish a 10 or 11 team West to go with the 10-11 team East, but i'm guessing the Fox networks are going to want to discount the west coast teams now that they have them over a barrel. The SEC [EsPN] will undoubtedly want to do the same thing to the few ACC teams they will want.
In the process the weakest teams in the big12, pac12 and the ACC are simply going to be relegated to the mid major conferences without any other options except to cut their budgets and eliminate a percentage of sports altogether.
What will emerge is the college version of the AFL vs the NFL with a playoff system to match... in the same manner as the pros it will be all about TV revenue and major market status from a TV standpoint. Yay.

Agree but I'll take the superior pro league over the minor league
And that's the problem -
This is going to sound blasphemous but we are here because the NCAA is NOT in charge of football.
If the NCAA were pooling the TV rights of 100 member schools (like they do for hoops) and selling those together this desire to merge to increase TV revenue would not be happening.
Edit: I did not realize this situation came from a Supreme Court ruling. Race, tell us about it since you were there.

Before 84 ABC had a monopoly on college football TV rights
You got one game a week then gradually went to a national and a regional game. So two games
Limits on how many games that the powers always filled.
Opening up the rights and ESPN going to the SEC early on for Saturday prime time football broke the Big 10 Pac 10 hold on football
Then in 97 the two leagues gave away the Rose Bowl
The SEC championship game already paid out more -
Apparently SC made the call to the B10 a few months ago.

Could see some fun litigated cases in the future if it can be proven that ESPN and/or FOX colluded to artificially establish market rates

Probably not happy about a number of their brands being devalued. -

Pretty sure logistical is a word but it doesn't sound like one. I'd just use logistics
It's like seeing "healthful" crop up everywhere. Sounds weird. Why not healthy -

The weird thing is I can see our lame ass administration now saying that it is logistically sound thinking [I'm using it again] and cheaper to wait until ASU, AZ, Utah and CSU commit to the big12 [which seems freaking obvious] so that the pac whatever is then totally destroyed = no exit fee, before our dumb as fuck administration feels like its "morally the right thing to do" to explore their remaining options.
Meanwhile Oregon is not Karen and will not feel that way ~ will not make decisions that way, and so UW will probably get bailed out anyway... meanwhile we have bonzo in charge and the Chimp brigade at the helm ~ Gawd help us all because they can not find their ass with either hand. -
