That phone always makes me laugh. We were eating at Tony Roma's by the Tacoma Mall back in the day when those things first appeared. There was a family in the booth next to us. The dude has this phone standing right at the end of his table so everyone can see it. Then he makes a call to someone and I hear him say, "yes, we're sitting here eating at Tony Roma's right now."Bob_C said:

There is a scene in Star Trek IV in which the crew travels back to 1986 San Francisco to take two whales back to the future. Kirk is in a restaurant with a marine biologist trying to find out some info on the whales when he gets a call on his communicator. The biologist first thinks it is a pager, then is shocked when Kirk pulls out a small device and starts to talk on it. Today, without any government subsidies, the Star Trek communicator is now just a humorous device compared to a 2022 Smart Phone. Compare that to the Electrical Vehicle which only exists due to massive government subsidies and still needs to be forced on the public.
