Unlike Jen Cohen, Smith is able to say how much money athletes are getting. My guess is that Cohen won’t say it because the amount of money UW athletes are getting is pretty small.

This is a great article because the tOSU AD is really operating as the GM in the new world and is telling everybody that will listen that in reality when you combine the instant portal with the NIL deals you have in effect created unrestricted free agency that has NO boundaries that are legally enforceable.

Anyone with a legal background could have easily understood this with great clarity at the jump off point ~ but the reality is the entire sport now knows that after being in operation for a couple of recruiting periods, what started off sounding to the neophyte observer as something to be described as the chaotic Wild West can now be more accurately described as the vastness of outer space with no actual legally or morally defendable boundaries at all. Unlike pro sports, the only limitation that exists is how much money the sponsors want to spend to pay the players.

Thinking along the same lines, Oddly enough this aspect may ripple back to the pro sports environment in a huge way because from a developing legal precedent standpoint, technically, the Salary Cap that exists in the Pro game is now not legally defensible either.

As HCH historians have often pointed out, this progression is what doomed the gladiator sports in antiquity and was actually the tipping point for the fall of Rome ~ @RaceBannon can confirm.

NIL is far too advanced for Cohen.

I am still not over the fact she wanted to retain Lake last year, even after the complete mismanagement of the program and the Ruperake incident.

I think the salary cap is totally fine because the owners control the league and the players agree to it under collective bargaining terms.

It's unseemly to brag about money
