One of the reasons Putin invaded Ukraine with President Joe Biden in the White House was that he expected the US to "sue for peace" and thought it would be better to deal with Biden than trying to negotiate with someone like Trump, whom the Russian leader had "to explain everything to all the time," Hill, who served as the top Russia advisor on the National Security Council under Trump, said Tuesday at a Chicago Council on Global Affairs event.

"He thought that somebody like Biden — who's a transatlanticist, who knows all about NATO, who actually knows where Ukraine is, and actually knows something about the history, and is very steeped in international affairs — would be the right person to engage with," Hill said.

Similarly, Trump's former White House chief of staff Gen. John Kelly also once said Trump "doesn't know any history at all, even some of the basics on the US," says Hill's new book, "There Is Nothing for You Here: Finding Opportunity in the Twenty-First Century," which was published last year.

In the book, Hill writes that Trump's meager comprehension of international affairs was a "major liability" for US national security.

So we're to believe Putin wanted a sharp smart Biden in office when he invaded not the stupid Trump. I mean other than H who would swallow this load?

What a crock of shit. These people are despicable. Kelly was one of Trump’s worst decisions ever.

Trump's bad staffing decisions are too many to count.

One of the disadvantages of being an outsider. Who to trust when seeking input on potential members of your team. Swamp works together to preserve the Swamp.

If he has a second go, I don't expect he's going to be listening to the people who made swamp recommendations. Yes, he did pick folks like those mentioned that he knew and apparently trusted. DC does things to people when money is involved. I remember mooch was everywhere badmouthing Trump. Where is the guy today? Or Omarosa?

By far the worst was the AG who bent over for Mueller setting the tone

I think the military leadership is completely compromised.

It will be interesting to see if Trump or DeSantis stand up to the massive blow back if they do clean house.

Trump was put on defense before he took office. Expect more of the same regardless of who it is

Did Trump learn anything. Because as we sit here in awfully warm for November 2024 territory it's still 50/50 that Trump is the nominee

DeSantis doesn't strike me as a guy that loves to be loved which is what gets Trump every time. We need an asshole who doesn't give a shit if he's an asshole

Dude, he just endorsed Dr. Oz in the PA Senate race. Trump doesn't appear to have learned anything.

Yeah- Trump who has been railing on China since the 80s doesn't know history. If they did have to explain things over and over it was most likely because he was picking thru their bs-

uring a public appearance Tuesday in Miami to announce cancer research funding, DeSantis briefly took aim at the Biden administration for easing some of the U.S.’s sanctions on Cuba and Venezuela, which DeSantis correctly pointed out will help no one but the dictatorships.

“I think we’ve seen this song before,” DeSantis said, according to the Tallahassee Democrat. “That is going to increase the amount of money that’s going to the dictatorship.”

At one point during the event, a reporter asked DeSantis how he felt about an outspoken Democratic state legislator and admitted socialist – Rep. Carlos Guillermo Smith – recently comparing him and his administration to regimes like Castro’s in Cuba and Maduro’s in Venezuela.

DeSantis put on an absolute clinic in response, providing a good blueprint for other Republicans to use in the months ahead as Democrats continue their disturbing march towards socialism:
