My Bro in-Law's grandparents died in Ocalla FL. Both were in their late 90's. They grew their own food and jarred their own food. This is about 2005. Grandmother had jarred veggies for decades and put the date on top of the jars. We opened some some okra and tomatoes. They were 30 years old and tasted wonderful. We did not eat meats and threw them out but water, salt and vinegar does the trick with with veggies.
They had squirrel but we threw that out. Can't imagine eating that but I know it was a staple way back then. -
