Was my first bowl game road trip as a college kid
Borrowed my dad’s Cadillac and me and 4 buddies headed down the day after Christmas. Stayed with a buddy in Anaheim Hills and stopped by the nearby Ralph’s Grocery to load up on booze for the week
Checker wouldn’t sell it to us because me and a buddy had out of state licenses (Washington) and I had the new one and my buddy had the old one. Guy had no idea there was a Bowl game going on down there and didn’t believe we were from Seattle for some reason
Buddy pulled out some Mariner ticket stubs and pointed out, who the fuck other than someone from Seattle would go to Mariners games. Manager finally relented and sold to us. CSB. -
Those were great days. I remember watching guys like Hoffman and Fraley and thinking they were bloody monsters. Like straight horror show shit. Now our guys look kinda smallish. Yeah I know, modern slimmed down pads and shit but still... -
