He lead the EYBL circuit in scoring. Looks solid. Just short and skinny.bananasnblondes said:We just got a #WOOF from some kid who is not rated by any recruiting services (we beat out Boston College and Cleveland State).
Also sounds like UW had a secret scrimmage against Boise and did pretty well -
It is a problem when your only preseason accolade player is one you didn’t develop for 4 years and is a super senior transfer.bananasnblondes said:Somehow UW is not picked for last place at Pac 12 media day. Cal Too High is less heralded.
UW had only 1 player receiving preseason accolades - Daejon Davis was all pac 12 honorable mention -
Bryan Penn-Johnson is at East LA College (Juco) aka Last Chance U

And your best player is another grad transfer that wasn't developed in the program...two one and dones- what many people were crying about with LoRo.MelloDawg said:

Who has Mike Hopkins developed going on 5 seasons? Nate Roberts? Jamal Bey? Cole Bajema? Elijah Hardy? Marcus Tsohonis? RaeQuan Battle? J'Raan Brooks? Nate Pryor? Riley Sorn? Erik Stevenson? Bryan Penn-Johnson?
The UW MBB program has no foundation going on Mike Hopkins 5th season at Montlake and is overly reliant on transfers not HS recruits making up the main core of the roster. -
No Romar hype here man. He sucked and had sucked for years by the time he got fired. One and dones only help if you have the team already set up.ChillyDawg said:

And if you go back and look at LoRo's returning roster and incoming recruiting class the year that he was fired he had that finally figured out. Romar had a potential roster featuring experienced upperclassmen (Noah Dickerson, Matisse Thybulle, David Crisp, Dominic Green, Matthew Atewe) to mix with talented incoming freshman (Michael Porter Jr, *Jontay Porter, Daejon Davis, Jaylen Nowell, Mamoudou Diarra, Blake Harris). *Jontay Porter had reclassified to 2017 as well. That HS recruiting class was ranked #2 in the Nation at the time.RoadDawg55 said:

No longer would the recruits have to come in and lead on the court but they would just have to fit in with talented experienced players in the rotation to guide them both on and off of the court.
The main reason Dickerson and company stayed at the UW after LoRo was fired is because Romar advised them not to transfer so Mike Hopkins got some talented experienced players playing with a chip on their shoulders for two seasons to show that they weren't the reason that Romar was fired. And Jaylen Nowell had a promise made to his father, who had just passed away at the time, to attend the UW so he stayed committed while the rest of LoRo's recruiting class went elsewhere to college.
Now we have this Mike Hopkins clusterfuck. He is in an even worse situation than LoRo was when he was fired. Mike Hopkins, after LoRo's recruits left Montlake, followed the LoRo blueprint by recruiting one and dones (Stewart, McDaniels) to a roster devoid of upperclassman leadership.
Mike Hopkins is doing all of this while being paid much more than Romar ever was to lead the UW MBB program. Romar never finished in last place in the Pac 12.
Going on five seasons at Montlake Mike Hopkins hasn't laid a program foundation built up by HS recruits his top 3 players this season are all one and done transfers (Davis, Brown, Matthews) while Bey is a senior as well.
Next season's the potential depth chart based on this year's official team roster https://gohuskies.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster currently looks like (*Bey/Matthews can return as a 5th year Seniors if they choose to do so. If Bey/Matthews don't return then one scholarship will still be open for 2022 recruiting):
CP: Roberts (R-SR), Sorn (R-SR)
PF: Wilson (SR), Grant (SO), Ariyibi (SO)
SF: Bajema (SR), Lindhart (FR)
SG: Fuller (SR)
PG: Penn (JR), Johnson (FR), Menifield (FR)
That potential roster would most likely be projected as another very weak team UW MBB team under Mike Hopkins who has shown that he can not develop nor coach up talent.
If both Bey and Mathews return to the UW then the 2022-23 UW MBB roster would most likely look something like this:
CP: Roberts (R-SR), Grant (SO), Sorn (R-SR)
PF: Matthews (5th SR), Wilson (SR), Ariyibi (SO)
SF: Bey (5th SR), Bajema (SR), Lindhart (FR)
SG: Fuller (SR)
PG: Penn (JR), Johnson (FR), Menifield (FR)
Still a very lackluster roster with very little upside to excite the UW MBB fanbase and supporters. -

Is there a way we can move just the @JimBasnight vs. @Tequilla /Kim Grinolds part of this thred to the classics?

Hard time is real shitz. Next time your friend says meet at 7/11 on Aurora I should have asked more questions. Instead it ended in a few years of free room and bored with 3 square meals a day.dnc said:

So @FreeChavez wasn't your grindr price, you were trying to start a movement.FreeChavez said:

Sorry I missed the signal bud, I would have gladly petitioned Insley unsuccessfully on your behalf. -
I forgot that I’m really Grinolds …
What’s in the box you ask? -
In related news, I will also be declaring for the NBA draft -
Heading back to WVU, the school he transferred out of. Really bad look for Hopkins and UW. Also lost out on one of the top transfers in the country who was supposedly a silent commit to UW. He took a last second trip to Texas Tech and committed there insteadTequilla said: -

Conroy promoted to assistant head coach.
So they're trying to assure recruits of some kind of stability for when Hop sells the couch while sparing Jen from having to do an actual coaching search. -
There are some posters on dawgman complimenting Jen for "locking Conroy down as the next HC"haie said:Conroy promoted to assistant head coach.

Looks like Menifield is gone. That Big10 offer must have finally come in. Can’t blame the kid, UW and the staff are on a dead man walking tour. Hops got Koren Johnson and two big men to try and build around. They can try to go .500 again and Hopkins can lament how hard it was to get a whole new team to gel and learn his complicated zone. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

Menifield was inconsistent and while he owned Oregon, he was benched a lot. Done for UCLA, total loser against Stanford and WSU to end the season.
Koren Johnson fits with Hops system. Plus he's a Seattle guy and will put up with it all. -
