The problem with a list like this is it is non-comprehensive and when Cohen reads this she may think ok, not getting any of those, guess Wilcox is a reasonable choice as next up. It gives him unnecessary legitimacy.

Need to give ourselves a reality check. We see UW as a football program that is a couple of good hires away from being back on the path to our rightful place amongst the elite. The rest of the CFB world, including the coaches we want to hire, see us as a dumpster fire, nested in a shit hole of a city, managed by a bunch of dip shits, supported by a mostly apathetic bunch of doog fans, in the Conference ofTTJ said:Stoops

We ain't getting a big time coach at this point. Time to think longterm about how we do move up the coaching ladder. We're going to have to see LSU and USC make hires, wait for the seat shuffling to end in the aftermath, then take a run at one of the more capable lower-2nd tier coaches left out of the mix.
Thinking any different is just being a doog.

90 percent of any job openings are dumpster fires. There is a pecking order like you said. Money can solve most of the issues. It’s just a matter of if they want to spend.TXDawg said:

There are plenty of successful coaches to be had after any blue bloods fill vacancies. I am not worried about the coaching pool. The leadership in our AD is the issue. -
UW is one of eleven teams to ever appear in the CFP.TXDawg said:

We'll make sure to add that to the job posting.TTJ said:UW is one of eleven teams to ever appear in the CFP.

You'll have to wait for SC, LSU, Florida, and possibly Penn State. Lincoln Riley has to start realizing he's never going to win one and the NFL chances will dry up so OU could potentially open up.
If Sparty can afford $8.5M for a guy with three seasons under his belt (two were awful) then UW is probably pretty far down the list in terms of salary. -
Coug was paying Rolo more than what UW had committed to its HC. Doesn't matter that Lake sucks, etc. UW was trying to pinch pennies. The "culture" doesn't have it in them to pay the big dollars to a heathen football coach.GhostofMosster47 said:You'll have to wait for SC, LSU, Florida, and possibly Penn State. Leipold. Most on that list aren’t options and the ones that are suck. Leipold would scare the shit out of me.

I hear Rolo available

Money is the great equalizer. But only if you spend it.

UW is competing with LSU, USC and possibly Florida, Penn St. and Texas for their next hire. Good luck the rest of the way.

Or hire a 3rd tier coach to replace the current, disgraced 3rd tier coach and be done with it.TXDawg said:

I'm hearing Wilcox would be a great hire because Saban would have a losing record at Cal

That is way more pumped up than it is. Our battles are really, the schools that we go against, have academic prowess, like the University of Washington, Notre Dame, Stanford, USC. We go toe to toe, all the way to the end, with those schools. So I think that's made up and pumped up in the media's world. In our world, we battle more academically prowess teamsgreenblood said:UW is competing with LSU, USC and possibly Florida, Penn St. and Texas for their next hire. Good luck the rest of the way.

Again, UW is one of only two teams on that list who has ever appeared in the CFP. The ceiling at UW rivals every one of those teams save USC (which has been even shittier, even longer).greenblood said:UW is competing with LSU, USC and possibly Florida, Penn St. and Texas for their next hire. The narrative that UW should somehow set its sights lower than a Penn State or a Florida is just utter loser horseshit.

Your really not trying to compare UW to Penn State/Florida as being equal jobs are you...TTJ said:

In regards to Wilcox, that hire is like making par. His average year will be 7 wins, 8 if more things go right than not, 9 if everything goes right. -
That would be sark basically. That’s not a par.godawgst said:

Pete could have had his lick of elite jobs throughout his career. He hired himself at uw. It could happen again. Probably won’t but you’re a bagina if you don’t try.

I’ll give you a resume:
* Won national coach of the year in the 2010s, Broyles award winner the decade before.
* Two national championship rings, one as a coordinator and one as a head coach.
* Coached at Florida State under Bobby Bowden, moved to Texas.
* Has coached a Heisman winner.
* Coached in a big time game against Oregon. -
Florida state has been in the playoffs and look how that is going for them. Time to stop hanging in to the last. Cool, we made the playoffs and lost, whoopie. We need to focus on winning. Peterson was a generational coach in the sense that he was a loyal, development focused coach with a brilliant defensive mind. When he could have bounced elsewhere, He didn’t. He was from the PNW, and despite how he is the best coach to be on the west coast in the last decade we still didn’t win a NY6 because it’s just that hard to get blue chip guys here compared to the other schools. Criscoballs is doing it but only with uncle Phil money.TTJ said:

The biggest pro for us: horrible conference. Any pea brain should be able to come in and win.
Downside: very few blue chip recruits compared to LSU, USC, Florida, etc areas. Also, our admin has shown that you can get about 1 year before you will be fired.
I think we can get a great coach here, but we have to go for a different TYPE of great than what the other schools are going for. A Peterson type great. I wouldn’t mind throwing the checkbook at someone like Dave Aranda.
