Formula One crowd in Austin biggest ever
dflea
Looks like F1 is becoming pretty popular here in the US. Formula One says the crowd in Austin topped 400,000 for the three day event. That makes it the biggest crowd ever for a 3 day weekend.
The weather was great, and the race turned out pretty good as well. Shaq showed up to congratulate the drivers on the podium after the race, and made them all look like midgets. Shaq's a big F1 fan, and who isn't a fan of Shaq?
The US gets two Grands Prix next year, with one on the streets of Miami. I think an F1 and tarpon fishing combo trip could be in order.

I don’t think it’s really going to on the streets of Miami…like Monaco.
It’s around the Dolphins stadium.

Drive to Survive has created many new F1 fans in the US. Including me.

That actually looks pretty cool.
I think I'm going to look into tickets for this race and then head down to the Keys for some fishing.

Americans will get into cake baking if there's a Netflix show about it. Don't twist it, F1>cake baking.

If we’re bashing cake baking around here, I’m out.

Went a few years ago pre-Covid…glad I went once but not something I’d do regularly. The amount of European money there though was just nuts.
Also the track/speed is hard to appreciate on TV after having seen it in person…as an example the hill at the start of the Austin track is much steeper/bigger than it looks on TV. Was pretty cool seeing it all though and walking around the pit/finish line/whatever it’s called afterwards.
