Is the claim "Biden wants to ban handguns" the same as "Biden wants to ban ALL handguns" ?
They're not. I think it's better to clarify that it's high capacity pistols he wants to ban, but not adding it doesn't make it a false statement.
These 'expert fact-checkers' can't even seem to understand the nuances of this. I see they are setting up strawmen, with one quote "Biden never said he wanted to take away everyone's weapons"... Like, what?
This claim should be rated as at least half true, if not mostly or all true, because if there are at least two handguns that he'd like to ban, then the statement "Biden wants to ban handguns" is literally correct.
You'd think fact-checkers that did their job right would just say "yes, it's true, Biden wants to ban handguns, but not all of them. So don't misinterpret the claim." Instead it's "OMG that claim is so false! It's a LIE! Biden doesn't want to take away EVERY handgun!"
But obviously we all know that 99% of fact-checkers aren't interested in being unbiased observationalists. So no big surprise here. -
