All that Aztec silliness is a smokescreen for the real matter at hand...Neil wanted some exotic tail. Nobody daydreams about imaginary chicks like he does.

    "The women all were beautiful..."

Yup. It's about the BRB, Jo.

But seriously, I never hear brown folk bitch about Cortez's depravity like they do about Columbus's supposed exploits - even though Howard Zinn plagiarized and lied his ass off about most of them.

    Not that it matters.

    Columbus wasn't an Iberian.

Goddamnit! That seriously had me scratching my head for a minute.

    Then I remembered this:

Neil live can be an acquired taste just like Neil studio. His movements are so awkward and out of time with what he's playing that, if you don't get a good camera angle, one might doubt whether he's actually playing it.

The best live, electric performances I've seen of him were from around the time of Ragged Glory...I think what became the Weld tour? I kept getting those videos in my YouTube feed from the Neil channel a few months ago. Really impressive and the best guitar work I've heard from him. That was peak Neil for my $$, better than the Rust tour.

I caught the Time Fades Away tour. Good stuff. Saw him a couple years earlier in his acoustic glory

Took my wife to the Greendale tour on the Muckleshoot rez. She couldn't believe someone could play the guitar, harmonica and sing all at once. Still talks about it

    Agree on the awkward though

Weld was a good tour, but also when he as ending a bunch of his songs with 5+ minutes of feedback, etc.

I recall around this time, he was the headliner for Blind Melon, Pearl Jam. Neil came out and 30% of the crowd left.
He didn't help himself with one song, "Love and Only Love". At the end he would sing, "...love and only love..." strum a chord and sustain. He did that amount 40 times. Even I, as a huge Neil fan, had enough.

He only does it 4 times here.

Year of the Horse was a great tour also, he used some of the show I saw him at the Gorge for the live album.
