What part ruined?
Because some decided they didn't want to turn and face the flag? Put their hand over their heart? -

You just need enough people to refuse to watch.

Mello ...
I'm trying to understand from those that think something was ruined what it was that they thought was ruined ...
I do think that there's a little bit of hypocrisy playing for your country, collecting a pay check from your country, but then failing to acknowlege or support your company. Don't you?
I also think it's incredibly bad taste to not be respectful of a 98 year old WWII veteran ... for all of the social justice activity out there today, let's think for a second what this world looks like if our "greatest generation" wasn't able to successfully win WWII? We can always strive to be better but let's get away from this idea that everything sucks because it isn't perfect today.
BTW, did you notice all the empty seats?
My guess is that there's enough locker room division within the US team that they don't win the Gold this time around. -
-
Did they lose to the U 15 Dallas team again?
-
Don’t know if the locker room is divided or not and don’t care. I don’t care when someone turns their back to the flag and playing the anthem before sporting events has always been unnecessary. There is no anthem before concerts, Broadway plays, comedy shows, etc, so why sports?Tequilla said:Mello ...

That said, you are spot on about the hypocrisy of playing and collecting a paycheck and turning away. I also agree the 98 year old WW2 vet deserves respect at the very least. -
I don't care about the locker room either other than I think we all know that this is the stuff that can split a locker room if it becomes an issue.RoadDawg55 said:

I'll be surprised if the US wins the gold ... just my best guess -
What are they protesting?
Let me guess, a broad "Racial injustice" paintbrush term a la Kapercuck. Never a real list of real injustices today, just the broad, nebulus term nobody can pin down. -
Everyone thinks this is their Rosa Parks moment. Guess what dipshit, it isn't. If you despise the country you play for, don't play. This shit is simple.

Its the laziness. They hypocrisy. This is a "national" team. This isn't some fucking little league soccer match or a college match where you got a scholarship to play. You elected to try out for and then play for the national team. You chose to try out for the national team knowing what it represented. You chose to not get a job like the rest of us slubs. You said yes to a paycheck to play for the national team. It is a honor and a privilege not a right to play on our "national" team that every single one of those spoiled brats knows represents a country, our country, in the Olympics. If that is not what you want to do, fuck off and go get a job where you are paid by people who could give a shit about your fucking politics. Better yet whitey, give your spot on the team to some black women if you are so concerned. Put your fucking money where your mouth is. Quit taking that paycheck from a country you dislike so much you fucking hypocrites.

Perhaps the whiners should have just attacked the 98 year old for risking his life back in the day just so these spoiled little cunts can get paid playing a game while traveling the world in luxury building their “brands” -

I don't know how old you are. I was around when Carter ruined the Olympics by turning it political. I remember the fists up podium display with head hanging down. The loss to the fucking Russian's in basketball. The glorious 1980 hockey win, virtually everyone in my dorm was glued to every second of those games leading up to the gold and the celebration with national pride was felt all over the campus. The hockey players were so proud and skated around with the flag held high.Tequilla said:What part ruined?
Because some decided they didn't want to turn and face the flag? Put their hand over their heart?
As a kid in the late 60's and 70's we waited 4 years for them and were glued to the set just waiting with baited breath to beat the big bad East Germans and Russians in any event we could. Since all the winter games were for rich participants and I was poor I didn't really have anything in common with them so the Summer Olympics were a special event. T&F, basketball, boxing, those were events poor people could actually strive to participate in. I really identified with them.
When we would win it was a serious source of national pride for us. Something we celebrated. It truly was a bonding experience for entire neighborhoods, really the entire country. We could all agree that a win for the good guys was a good thing.
Now we have spoiled brats on the team who have completely forgotten what they are there for. They sure as hell aren't representing me or the country. They have their own agenda and if you don't think that is the case you haven't been watching. They have made it about themselves. Hence the lack of patience or respect for these athletes who FEEL the need to play their political games but don't feel the need to give up their spot on the Olympic team to people who they are supposedly protesting for. There is zero sacrifice and they are bound and determined to make the Olympics about themselves.
Most people don't know that we don't support our Olympic team through taxes. There is a trickle down effect but for the most part the sports are paid for through fundraising and advertising dollars via the networks. I used to give to the wrestling and cycling national teams because I had friends who were either on the team in the past or were trying to make the team in the present. I stopped giving once my wife and I found more worthy causes for our charitable contributions. I am actually glad I don't waste my money any more on Olympic athletes.

It boils down to whether you think the US is an exceptional country or is not. I think/thought is used to be. Getting worse now because of POS like Megan Rapinoe. 35 years ago there was no women's world cup. A dyke like Rapinoe would be working at Walmart with her head down. Men could make millions in soccer and women had to basically pay to play. Today, Rapinoe is a multi-millionaire and an open lesbian and basically nobody cares about that. She accuses people like me and the country of being racist bigots who hate women, especially gays. She has so much to be thankful for but she is an embittered angry dyke that hates this country. I care about that. She should have never played for this country if it was so bad. Instead, she gladly took the money and enjoyed the fame so she could then take a dump on America. I'm surprised that this has you confused. But then, you couldn't vote for Trump because of your high character.Tequilla said:

Tommie Smith and John Carlos had something to protest in 1968. There was talk of a Black boycott of the American team for the 1968 Games.
Smith and Carlos also paid a stiff and immediate price for the protest. Some media like Sports Illustrated were sympathetic as was I as a 12 year old. The two stars got sent home and lost their medals. Got banned for awhile. Took some REAL hate from the democrat Jim Crow types down south
Only as time went by did they get credit for what they did and the price they paid
Today you have these losers who cry like bitches if anyone says anything mean about their "protest". And probably couldn't tell you what they are protesting

https://salon.com/2021/07/04/one-and-only-dick-gregory-showtime-andre-gaines/
Dick Gregory was a groundbreaking comedian who spoke truth to power. He used humor as a way of calling attention to politics and social issues. Andre Gaines' terrific documentary, "The One and Only Dick Gregory," debuting on Showtime on July 4, shows Gregory's activism was more important to him than his comedy and wealth. In 1962, he went to Mississippi to help Medgar Evers with voting rights. "He could have sent a check," someone in the documentary acknowledges, but Gregory put in the time and money to assist others — even at the expense of raising his family.
"The One and Only Dick Gregory," traces the comedian's brilliant career from his groundbreaking set in 1961 at the Playboy club in Chicago — performing for a white, Southern audience, no less — and his appearance on "The Jack Parr Program," which generated a big salary bump. He gained considerable fame and success but stopped performing to work for social justice in the civil rights movement. He was frequently jailed and spoke out against police brutality, the Vietnam war, and was under surveillance by the FBI.
Watched this yesterday. Gregory spent a bit of time in the Thurston County Jail where my dad visited him
Dick was making 500 grand a year in the 60's when he gave it up for activism -
And the FBI that the left worships today was right there spying on him
