I recently learned he was in charge of some fakakta (hai DJ!!) antebellum federal effort to find railroad routes east to west. One of his chief leftenants was none other than George McClellan. These fuckasses failed to find Stevens Pass. McClellan because he was lazy AF, and Davis because he wanted routes to run farther south.
Then in the 1880s Big Swingin Dick Jim Hill's guysm discovered Stevens Pass, punched a railroad through it, and then 100 people died in an avalanche there in 1910.
