Halibut fishing opened yesterday

Never really put much effort into fishing for halibut. I like eating them, but can't tell you about catching them. I went for lings and sea bass today. Got a bunch. Ling cod fish and chips for dinner tomorrow. One of my faves.

Anyone south of Olympia gets their halibut at Trader Joe’s -
Waiting for the doogie report.
I cut everything up and got it all vacuum sealed and in the freezer other than a nice ling cod filet that is going to be dinner tonight. Ended up with a pretty decent sack of filets that should last until Neah bay opens back up. We got a mess of big rock fish yesterday - bigger than you're normally catching this time of year. I'm going to whip up some fish tacos tomorrow with what I didn't freeze.

Halibut fishing is about as boring as it gets compared to going for just about anything else and even when you get one in the line it’s like reeling up an old tire from the bottom of the ocean...but it doesn’t get much better than eating fresh halibut.dflea said:Never really put much effort into fishing for halibut. Didn’t get a hook wet. And if you’re expecting a good fish story here, you’d better stop reading right now.
The group kept growing. Didn’t leave the dock until noon. Ran into a buddy in the parking lot who was experiencing boat issues laughing at me as I returned the dock cart when he heard we weren’t going fishing after all, we were going cruising for Orca sighting$$$
Visibility was about 1/4 mile.

Sometimes shit goes sideways at the dock. It's almost as if the weather gods were mocking you the way it was sunny for two straight weeks and then decided to change right in time for your fishing trip.
The reports I heard were not good if that's any consolation. The fish checkers saw lots of empty fish boxes. -
