The direction both parties seem to be going in is all about “I’m right and you’re wrong,” heavily polarized, and limiting influence from their opposition.

You can point to the failures of socialism and you can point to the fascism that comes when you move too far right and be worried about the status quo being broken and where that takes us. But there are politicians offering something else. Ones who want to end American imperialism, to get money out of politics and who offer us an economic path forward that’s proven. Their names are Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

I will agree with you in sentiment that $$$ in politics is bad ... the more $$$ in politics the more people are willing to be corrupt to get their hands on it.

So given the above, I would tend to lean towards the idea of how do we minimize the influence of government in terms of the monies they have available. After all, absolute power absolutely corrupts or something like that.

Now, we can’t completely toss government to side because there are basic tenants that they are able to carry out that we can’t carry out in the private sector. There’s national security. There’s rules and laws that give us the groundwork from which to operate. I think you get the gist.

But when has the government ever proven that they offer answers or solutions?

So you cite Bernie as an example ... what does Bernie really want to do? He wants to consolidate under the government. It’s the government that provides your healthcare. It’s the government that provides education. The government dictates all. And as a citizen, you get all these things by contributing a truly staggering % of your income back to the government in taxes because the government and Bernie know best. Doesn’t that completely fly in the face of your idea of getting $$$ out of politics?

And if we want to talk about AIC, she’s on record as wanting to tax in the 60-70% range. Plus, I’ve never seen her not overly eager to bypass any political opportunity that she can get.

So I’m sorry if I don’t see or agree with the idea that Bernie, AOC, or anyone else in that political lane is a saint when it comes to getting money and corruption out of the picture. And make no mistake, Bernie sold out to Biden because he knew deep down that he couldn’t beat Trump. As always, follow the actions.

Now, you’ve introduced American Imperialism ... it’s an interesting concept to me. I don’t see the USA actively going out on the world stage at present expounding our virtues really at any material point in the last 20+ years. The closest that you could probably come to saying that that took place was post 9/11 and the after effects on terrorism and countries that supported it. In the present, we are actively tearing ourselves down and telling everybody how much we suck. And let’s be clear, this country isn’t perfect and likely never will be. But let’s also be honest in saying that nobody else is or ever has been perfect either. I’ve traveled enough to know despite the warts of this country I’m also very aware of and consider myself fortunate to have the freedoms and opportunities afforded to me as a citizen of this country. I’m thankful for that every single day.

If you really want to go down the path of imperialism, so you know who has no issue going down that path? That’s China. And anyone paying attention can see China aggressively expanding their reach in Asia and Africa.

I’m not going to try to sway your mind on the subject ... you’re more than entitled to think however you want. I do think it’s important to consider all aspects and angles of situations. It’s not uncommon that you may find yourself in a position where you do not like one outcome but find the other outcome as substantially worse.
