Sounds like a smart guy to realize that being good at something 6-12 times a game will get you a scholarship.

I don't want to sound like kickercoach here, but long-snapping is involved in every series at least once (but usually only once). Every drive that ends in a punt, field goal, or TD with a PAT will involve LS and having a good long snapper means you're able to better execute fakes (getting the ball there faster, cleaner).

I'm not sure if the position warrants a scholarship, but maybe Petersen doesn't want to deal with the headache of finding and evaluating walk-ons (or he doesn't like the freshmen long-snappers we have). Who knows, we might be talking about a future NFL player here.

Rubio is a "Long snapping specialist". All he does is rate long snappers. So a 5 star snapper on his site is considered to be a Division 1 player, 4 star is Division 2, 3 star is division 3.

I actually respect the way he rates them. He only rates them if he sees them in person, not off video like Fetters and Eklund do while they are watching teenage boys on their laptop sitting in their mom's basement with cheetos and nachos all over themselves.

All this tells me is that he's only rating the kids that pay to come out to his camps:
"Carty did extremely well at the Rubio Long Snapping Spring Event in Las Vegas."
That's why I was scoffing at the original link. It's hard to put stock in a rating system that is inherently limited in scope and influenced by $. Not saying I like Scout/Rivals, either, all these rating services have their own agenda.
That is the beauty of this system - it isn't a relative ranking comparing this guy to that guy and biasing the sampling based on who shells out the money to camp. It says, independent of the other players, who is D1 caliber, D2 caliber, etc.

Anyway, interesting to see an offer go out to a LS since the last few have all been walk-ons. Don't think we've done that since Rick or Gilby.

I'm pretty sure Tyrone offered this guy a scholarship as a Long Snapper, not saying that Peterman is anything like Tyrone....

Shit, you're right. I thought it was Gilby that offered him, but it was Ty. My bad.

    Kid Rock?

I will say it wasn't one of his worst ideas, nor his best

how the FUCK does the "long snapper" position even get rated? most colleges should just make the backup center the long snapper. Someone who is getting ranked as a pure "long snapper" probably wasn't good enough to excel in high school.

Or possibly someone who was a good or even great high school player that knew his limitations and realized he wasn't playing D1 anywhere. Probably also realized he wasn't going to the NFL but was smart enough (or his 2 dads were smart enough) to get him into a niche that can help create the conditions for a college scholarship and a very long NFL career.
