When is Donald J. Trump High School being constructed in Post Falls? Have they broken ground yet?PurpleThrobber said:

Who'd have thunk that, right? All of Seattle has become a liberal hellhole. Roosevelt won't remain unscathed. -

nobody i know in SF sends their kids to public schools anyway.

whatever. -
Before the Ballard rebuild, Roosevelt ruled the North and Garfield ruled the South. Everyone wanted into either of those.huskyhooligan said:

Third, as nice as the remodel was, adding a parking lot shrunk the campus. I believe despite being the largest school in the district (maybe Ballard, they tend to flip flop) it sits I believe on the smallest campus of all the high schools. The rumor was the school district was going to purchase the block of houses behind the school to allow for more room, parking, etc. I'm guessing there was push back. They really should have just purchased the block in front of the school for parking. Old campus had a large annex building that housed the lunch room and about 8-12 classrooms.
Many of the wokies in the area are definitely transplants, and despite sending their kids to one of the largest elementary schools in the district (Bryant), largest middle school (Eckstein), and now largest high school, all with above average test scores, they still fight for smaller class sizes. Really if you value your kids education, just make certain they complete their homework. Getting into college won't be hard from RHS. My poont is that back in the 50's and 60's when there was 2500 kids mashed into the building, they still seemed to pump out a couple of nobel prize winners, despite 30 or more students per class.
Things have changed a lot as the City has grown and gentrified and there really aren't any really, really bad High Schools anymore. Families at Franklin, Ballard, Ingraham, Hale, Beach and West Seattle are content. Sealth and Cleveland aren't great, but they don't suck like when nobody wanted to go there and they were falling apart.
But SPS and the Union are certain to fuck that up and destroy 20 years of progress in the name of Social Justice, and parents who are serious will flock to charters and the community colleges for running start, because most of the young public school teachers today are SJW assholes and flunkies not competent to run a dog kennel. -
It was APP, not AP. Every school has AP classes. Garfield had a larger catalog, but the Accelerated Progress Program (APP) at Washington MS ended in 8th grade. Most APP kids matriculated to Garfield to stay together with the kids they'd known since 1st grade.huskyhooligan said:
My class, did not. Definitely the AP program had an impact. Knew multiple kids who lived in the area who bussed down to Garfield for the AP program and science magnate.HHusky said:
My class had eleven National Merit Finalists. Lakeside wasn't putting up that number in the 70s. Some of that population got siphoned off to the the AP program at Garfield, of course. But it was still a good school when my kids were there, not that long ago.huskyhooligan said:

It doesn't matter anymore, however. They've all bought into the "APP is Racist" mantra and driven a stake through the heart of the program, and Garfield's academics have plummeted as the class-skipping to go protest model has become it's primary purpose anymore. "We'll turn the streets into our classrooms" they brag, teaching kids to block traffic and harass the neighborhood.
Maybe they'll smash up some windows downtown, or even "attack the Capitol" someday. One can only hope for such bright futures. -
Few people living in the city have kids. Even fewer white people who live in the city have kids. Of those that do, many of them have the money to send their kids to private schools. This isn't true for Asians. More Asian people who do live in the city have children. Many of them can not afford private schools. There are some good public schools in the city and Lowell was one of them.rodmansrage said:nobody i know in SF sends their kids to public schools anyway.

Garfield's academics simply went where they would have gone anyway without the artificial inflation that placing the APP program there caused.
APP shouldn't exist not because APP is racist, but because all schools should have accelerated programs as well as regular programs. Like the olden days. But I'm an old curmudgeon who thinks we should still have shop classes in school too. -

The number of kids from Queen Anne and Magnolia that were purposely bussing to Franklin and Garfield was high. Ballard rebuild and poof, all wanted to go to Ballard.TurdBomber said:

Can't agree with you any more. SPS are potentially at their best, at least in perception, in my lifetime. -
Problem with schools is this: A bad event takes years to learn about, and then the school gets a bad rep that lasts for a decade, long after the problems are fixed.
Mainly because most Seattle people are lazy sheep who make decisions based on rumors and what the neighbors are doing.
Fuck I hate this City anymore. The tail always wags the dog around here.
If you live in Seattle, then Fuck You. It's not personal.
