I dont hate the idea. I was a school kid in the 80s so that's my era. Didn't like the genre as a rule, but there a lot of songs from it that stuck with me. In many cases I have no clue who the band is. I'll be a useless voter but I'm sure I'd enjoy it.
I'll predict now that Depeche Mode wins. -
So Billy, here's a list of the music tournaments we've done thus far...
All eras of rock - 64 entries
Heavy Metal - 32 entries
Rap/Hip Hop - 32 entries
Cuntry - 32 entries
Soul R/B - 32 entries
HCH favorite rock album - 64 entries
I'm not opposed to the idea, but the tricky part is New Wave would be by far the most niche genre ever attempted in these here parts. -
New wave artists either deny they are new wave or that it existed
It is tricky. Was Duran Duran new wave or hair? -
If this happens, the Jam Band pole needs to be done.
-
Isn't that one band?alumni94 said:If this happens, the Jam Band pole needs to be done.

These guys would be about a 4 seed. Love this song!!Fire_Marshall_Bill said:I know I've asked or floated this idea before. I emailed Yella once. I'm assuming a hair metal pole was already done knowing this crowd. Let's make it happen! I have more tim than I have since 2016 or so.

Tons of good bands if you have a liberal interpretation of the genre. Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, New Order, Blondie, Talking Heads, The Cars, Devo, Tears for Fears, The Eurythmics, The Smiths, and The Pet Shop Boys, and that's just off the top of my head sitting here. I think you could have a really solid 16 band tourney, or a pretty watered down 32 band tourney.

The Police, The Go-Gos, The Producers (horribly underrated - war guitarkeyboard guy), The Cure, Talking Heads, B-52s and Elvis Costello and The Attractions, The Pretenders (war Chrissy Hynde).Swaye said:Tons of good bands if you have a liberal interpretation of the genre. New wave morphed into synthpop when you start getting into Eurythmics, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys....not saying that's bad, it's like rap morphing into hip hop into gangsta rap. For example, one of my faves-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3jG5x7yCrI

Vince Clarke really dominated the genre
Depeche Mode to Yazoo to Erasurehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-n-9Sj55BHw

Erasure had two sold out shows at the Moore I think a year or so ago. Secondary market was pricey.
Joy Division to New Order was also an interesting transition.

I should consult my older siblings. They were super into new wave, and it was basically the soundtrack of my growing up. -

My new wave playlist is 79 songs (5 hours and 27 minutes) and growing. Just added a couple of The Fixx songs thanks to this here bored. All certified hits focused on mainly Brit pop new wave. No deep cuts.
Probably my most played music these days cause it brings me back to the 80s glory days of being young, super fit, preppy as fuck, drinking cheap beer, wine coolers, horrible weed, and banging just about any young hottie that looked at me.
An escape from this pandemic bullshit. -
