It isn't about hating immigrants, it's about the economic strain if you allow for mass immigration. If you bring in tens of millions of additional people that will require additional milking of social benefits, you create an economic situation where obligations far exceed output. This creates hyper inflation and excess poverty.

Before national health care, police reform, green agenda, etc. Immigration will be the major dilemma facing this administration. With even a miniscule sense of hope for amnesty, you will see a mass flooding of immigrants at the border never seen before. It's going top be a hot mess, and Biden even knows full amnesty will kill the US economy, but his base won't accept anything short of that. Even providing an easily followed pathway to citizenship is seen as a hostile form of discrimination from many people in the new democratic party.

My gut feeling is, they do know, but being in positions of government in a growing socialistic society, the ramifications won't impact them.

Bingo. None of the negative effects of illegal immigration and millions of low wage, low skilled workers is felt by them. Their kids don't go to the schools these people's kids go to. Their wages won't be depressed by these people. They won't have to visit an emergency room that is clogged with these people and they won't live in the neighborhoods where most of these people will end up. And they'll receive almost all of their votes.
