Waylon was playing in Buddy's band on tour, and gave his plane ticket to the Big Bopper, to instead take a bus. Waylon's account has said that just before departing, Buddy said jokingly "I hope the bus breaks down", to which Waylon replied, jokingly, "I hope the plane crashes"...He admittedly struggled for a long time with that. -

While we are in the wayback machine, this reminds me of another guy from the period that also went down in a plane crash later ~ my cousin John Felton was the deep base singer of the Doo Wap group the Diamonds ~ here is a cool period piece clip of the Diamonds singing Little Darlin on the then infamous Dick Clark's Saturday Night Beachnut Show... [this is the kind of fun factor excitement that you young guys missed].
