At least we got #MyHeims
Dude's gonna substitute a boot for roids in Denny Hall and harvest quook and cuoglet tears in a few seasons. -

I mean fuck's sake, we had 43 four/five star kids "in progress" on the roster this year. More than Oregon or USC. We're still gonna be well over 50% 4/5 stars for the foreseeable future. Go out and win some fucking ball games Jimmy or fuck.1to392831weretaken said:Doog take: I haven't followed the class that closely this year, and I'm not suicidal over a perceived lack of quality. Not after last season completely broke me.
Maybe I've got the numbers wrong, but my perception is that the higher the "blue chip ratio" got, the shittier the team's play and record, ending in last season's 4-5 dumpster fire with the highest blue chip ratio in the conference, a 5-star quarterback, and finally fewer "3-star weaklings" like BBK starting. It left me wondering if the SOC program was broken, as it sure looked like nobody was getting any better/stronger than they were the day they stepped on campus.
So fuck it. I don't care who they were going to get if those kids aren't going to be developed into big time players anyway. I'll take 12 Greg Gaineses if that's on the menu.
To me, it always came down to those few in-state (in this class) elite kids who are can't-miss difference makers. Egbuka and JTT were this class's Budda or Byron Murphy or John Ross, guys who can singlehandedly turn a game by making an elite play. Everything below those kinds of difference-makers seems to be more dependent on coaching and development than initial ranking.
So no JTT and Egbuka, and I'm just struggling to care about today. The rest will either develop into elite players (Gaines, BBK, Jones, etc.) or they won't, but it won't matter one bit without a few game-breaking players mixed in when facing a roster in the postseason that's full of Egbukas and JTTs.
If we just get this recruit or that recruit...blah, blah, blah.
I'm sure glad we got ZTF and Ulofoshio, the "must gets" everyone told us about. Losing Kaho really devastated the program.
Voi could potentially be Greg Gaines with super high end athleticism. -
It's not surprising to me because I think Jimmy learned some bad habits from Petersen's last year, unlearning the good habits Pete had taught in the previous years. He learned that there is more to life than winning, more to life than football, that you need some perspective; he unlearned that to be a winner in a sea of other people trying to win you have to eat, drink, and sleep winning, and most importantly you have to demand the same from everyone around you. Winning has to inform everything you do at work, and that work has to become your whole life to an unhealthy level for at least 9-10 months a year.Houhusky said:Its not surprising Jimmy doesn't get great return on his "investment"
He is young, a first time head coach, only been at UW, seems like he wants to be in the NFL someday, and comes across somewhat undisciplined and runs his mouth alot.
Coaching both in college and in the NFL is an incestuous good ole boys fraternity. Lake's connections to hire guys (especially proven/in-demand guys) was always going to be extremely limited.
Im glad they are willing to spend the money.
Do I think as a human, Pete has evolved? Absolutely, I bet his family is super appreciative for the change. But, would I ever want him back as the head coach at a competitive program? Fuck no, unless he was willing to let Ronnie Lott chop off his pinkie to prove he needs it.
Lake has exactly until maybe a month after this season is finally over for me to give him any benefit of the doubt. If he doesn't go scorched earth on his coaching staff after this year's game and recruiting performance, it will be pretty clear he doesn't have what it takes, and it's just AANDY's ticking clock until it's on to the next guy. -

I hope he turns into half the player of AD.

Obviously he's not Aaron Donald, but I do see similarities in their size and their game. Voi has some serious athleticism. I love him.backthepack said:I hope he turns into half the player of AD.

I disagree. I think jimmy is driven and ambitious as hell and wants to get to the nfl. Winning means a lot to him.Emoterman said:

I just think he believes he is smarter than everyone and can coach whomever is on the roster better than the opponent to win the conference every year with a staff that has an inflated view of themselves.
I also believe he is wrong -
I think Jimmy, like Sark and like Willie, is a better salesman than he is a coach. Willie stayed one move ahead of the bill collectors until it finally caught up with him in Tally.
Sark flames out when he drank himself out of the position at USC.
Jimmy is young and isn’t quite ready for the big boy chair. I truly feel that HC is something you almost have to fail at a little before you can succeed somewhere else...and that’s for the talented coaches. The dime/dozen shitbirds like Sark, Willie T and Kevin Sumlin will drag 7-8 wins with them no matter how experienced they get.
What I’m trying to say is that Pete wasn’t perfect, but trading him out for Instagram coaches like Jimmy will prove to be a huge net loss, over time. -

Some positive news, looks like we may be getting a really good PWO, CB'd to UW
https://247sports.com/Player/Milton-Hopkins-46043058/
Played QB at O'Dea because he's their best athlete, but he's a LB or TE. Getting 6'5 220 athletes to walk on is pretty cool -
Keep this in chat, but I'm hearing we might get a PWO. Word is he's pretty good.
-
He'll be getting playing time in a few years, and @Tequilla will be worrying for his safety.

One of the most interesting times of the year has come a bit early for the University of Washington with preferred walk-on prospects making decisions earlier than they normally would have due to the fact that many prospects have yet to play a senior football season. The Huskies added their second preferred walk-on since Signing Day on Wednesday as O'Dea (Seattle, Wa.) ATH Milton Hopkins made the decision to turn down offers from a couple of Group of Five programs to play for the local team.Neighbor2972 said:
"I just felt comfortable staying here and going to U-Dub," Hopkins told Dawgman.com of his decision. "They felt I could be a guy who eventually earns a scholarship and I have lots of friends and family here. Basically it came down to on-the-field development and off the field with my friends and family being able to watch me play."
The 6'5", 220 athlete chose the Huskies over offers from San Jose State and Eastern Washington.
Hopkins, who plays both ways for the Irish, said the Huskies picture him as an outside linebacker.
"I'll be coming in and playing the same position Sav'ell Smalls plays," Hopkins said. "I know him pretty well. I've played against him and we've played X-Box a few times. I feel like I can go in and learn from him and pick up some things from him and become a better player."
Hopkins said he has gotten the chance to watch the Huskies a few times this season and he's been impressed with what he's seen.
"I watched their games against Utah, Arizona and Oregon State," Hopkins noted. "It's a different feeling up there with a new head coach and the pandemic, but they have a great program and with Dylan Morris playing quarterback and (Zion Tupuola-Fetui) going off, he's the best defensive player in the country, I just wanted to be at a program like that and with the future they have."
Husky head coach Jimmy Lake mentioned the program's propensity for finding walk-ons that can eventually become starters.
"The really cool thing is, history shows that we will reward walk-ons," Lake told the media on Wednesday. "We have starters on our team right now that were former walk-ons."
In addition to Hopkins, Washington also picked up a preferred walk-on commitment from his teammate, linebacker Styles Siva-Tu’u, who announced his decision on Signing Day and they grabbed a walk-on kicker on Wednesday when Calabassas (Ca.) kicker Jarrett North signed with the team. -
