Fantastic interview. Fountaine would fit in quite well on our forums. Sad but not surprising to see how the Sark regime treated former players. What a disgrace.

Good piece Derek. I liked Jamal's stance throughout this article. No reason to be mad at Sark for leaving because like he stated he was mediocre so good riddance no hard feelings.

I'm excited for the Petersen era to begin. Just like with you both I didn't like the Sark hire at all at first, hate the Doog revisionist history where EVERYONE loved that hire at the time which is simply false.

While I believe anyone with half a brain loved the Petersen hire. He is a professional. The way he coaches, the way he talks, the way he interacts with other people he is a total pro. While with Dude Brah he was always sleezy and telling you what you want to hear.

It does bother me how so many former players on great teams are treated like shit in the past decade. That does get annoying reading one ex-player after another being treated like dirt. That shit needs to stop ASAP!

too bad he didn't come from woodinville
  • I ran into Jamal at a Auburn home game while I was living in Atlanta in 99. My cousin was playing the Tigers and he noticed me and my then GF in UW gear and approached us while waiting for the players after the game. Nice guy, if I remember right he was doing something in the construction field. I remember telling him how happy I was Rick was our new coach, he was cool but I'm sure he had a lot of loyalty to Lambo. Mad respect for Jim, he just wasn't HC material. I too will miss Tui but accepting the TE coach being he was a RB winning QB for us seems to be something he wasn't ok with. It's all good, wish Tui all the best but not sure how good his decision was knowing the coach Sark is and the valuable experience he may have had working under Petersen. This train is definitely moving forward. I hope we see Tui back when he gets more experience.

FYI I love how Auburn has the War Eagle fly in before the game. My GF loved waiting for my cousin after the game near the locker room because every 15 seconds a door would open and all the ladies would giggle seeing a bunch of naked guys. Thankfully I was chatting to Jamal to notice.

I would have up voted but I doubt Jamal would fit in here...everything else thumbs up!

Good stuff from Jamal, esp the last paragraph. Funny stuff

I forgot that Matt Fountaine came in to replace an injured Derek Johnson?

Great read. Love his digs at "other regimes" who can't even come up with a sideline pass. FFS, this guy won 3 RB's and was a pro football player. You would think having him on the sidelines would be a GOOD thing. The issue is losers like Try and the Armenian don't want players from an era of dominance always around to further highlight their flailing about half assed approach to football.

My guess is a squared away Coach like PeterNorth will embrace them. He isn't scared of success.
