My take on the podcasts vs the old HHB podcasts are this:
What made the HHB podcasts so appealing was there was no script or attempt to be a show. Unlike this current one you break it down to segments where you spend 15 mins talking offense, 15 mins talking defense, etc.
With the HHB podcasts it was two friends venting about Husky football and we just so happened to be the audience. They never worried about who was listening or what anyone thought. While you guys mention listeners in every podcast so you obviously worry about listeners.
The HHB podcasts had good satirical humor to go with it. Some real good clever witty comments in there. While with the new ones I feel like it's Adam Sandler humor where RoadDawg is just trying too hard to be funny.
The new ones doesn't flow as well either. You claim you rehearse prior to your "show" yet when Road or Chest makes an inappropriate joke Little Jimmy is always laughing awkwardly then tries to move the topic to somewhere else. I feel like that is your biggest problem so far is you don't know what you want to be. Little Jimmy obviously wants this to be taken seriously while Road views it as a joke, then Chest is typically in the middle. While with the HHB ones iDawg and Race didn't always agree but they were always on the same page.
I also liked with Race and iDawg they would always bring up the past. Talk about the James era, the pain of the Lambo years, the myths surrounding Rick Neuheisel. Nobody ever wants to talk about that. I'm always meant with "quit living in the past" so that was refreshing.
I think in the podcasts you can tell Race and iDawg know their shit when it comes to football. They also know the Doog script and openly mock it. Like after the Nebraska loss Race praising Callier and going "I can't wait until he's a senior and he's forgotten. Doogs will be saying bench him we want new young kid X".
Ultimately, what made the HHB podcasts so well and what is hurting in these new ones is they were genuine. While you guys seem scripted. There is a reason why your ASU podcast was your best one IMO. We finally felt the raw sense of emotion from all three of you after a horrible loss. There was no X's and O's breakdown it was just a bitchfest which after a bullshit loss like that was needed.
I'm sure you three will slam my critiques but as someone who has listened to every episode in the past(I don't know if I will in the future) I'd say be more genuine. If I want to listen to a "show" I'll go listen to a show. Podcasts are supposed to be free emotion with no rules which is what made Race and iDawg's podcast so quality. -
I like the podcasts, and I don't bother comparing them to the HHB ones. They are what they are, and I think they do a good job. You keep making them, and I'll keep listening.

I appreciate everyone who has listened. We are just trying to talk husky football. It's not really any more complicated than that. If you enjoy it, great. We have gotten emails and it always cool to hear that people enjoy them. If you don't like them, no big deal. You're not going to hurt anyone's feelings.
If race an idawg start podcasting again, I will gladly tune in. I wish I was around to hear some of their old podcasts. It's never been a competition. I like this board a lot and Podcasting with Cornell and Chest has been awesome. I think we are all getting a little restless waiting for the season. Hopefully we tear it up and have some things to get excited about. -
We aren't trying to be the old HHB podcast which was great years ago. An unscripted podcast will lose its listeners and dwindle to nothing. You have to have set topics first, then you can let things roll.
I started it because there was a desperate need for a new voice for husky football. Dawgman is a disgrace, Softy is a pussy and the lead reporter Jude is a lazy fuck who openly roots for a rival team. This is a lemon party of lead voices in the media. Absolutely pathetic that there is no source for cutting edge, honest, incisive discussion and analysis.
Our goal last season was to put Sark on the hot seat and shift fan expectations higher to where they should have been. We weren't concerned with listeners then. However, the audience slowly grew and picked up considerably after the ASU debacle. Since that growth the podcast listenership has almost doubled. So as the fortunes for the program turned with Petersen, interest in the podcast has grown.
Little grass roots shit matters. I don't take myself seriously but I do take seriously the fact that if we do things right- have the right mixture of analysis and humor that we grow to the point where we become a real voice for husky football. We know that Woodward knows about HardcoreHusky. Surely, someone has mentioned HuskyFanPodcast to him. I'm not taking credit for anything but maybe just maybe our podcast brought up some points somewhere that Woodward or someone else important took into account or at least looked at or considered.
We even have a cult UCLA following now. A UCLA fan reported on their scout board that he discovered this via our preview of UW-UCLA last year and said we predicted how the game went quite closely. Those fans enjoy the calling out of Yogi Roth and analysis of why Sark is a mediocre coach and an all around douche. -
I'm too ADD to listen to a 50 minute podcast, but the haters are really pressing on this. Listen or don't, wgaf.

I would love to jump on the bandwagon and start a podcast or join a conversation. I never listened to the older race and idawg segments, but the current podcast is solid.
Cockus does have a few valid criticisms, but it's nothing worth trashing the whole show over. Chemistry is a little off, but it's a simple listen or don't scenario.
The real problem is there is pretty much nothing to talk about right now. The players are all working harder than ever before, attendance at workouts is up, they are all buying in to the new staff, Soak, light, burn (lather, rinse, repeat). -
so here's the thing... go to any podcasting app or iTunes and do a search for washington huskies and you'll find only two options:
Option 1, the dawgman show where they might perhaps spend 30 minutes saying nothing about the practice combine results from 39 rows up in the stands. Riveting.
Option 2, HardcoreHusky where you get jokes and strong opinions.
I don't understand how anyone could actually complain about the HHB podcasts. If you don't like them because of the content or profanity then don't listen, but to judge them when nobody else in the world gives a shit any about producing UW content is a bit disingenuous. -
Option 3, since it's the offseason I downloaded Race and idawgs podcast, like 4 years worth and I am in year 2.Meek said:so here's the thing... go to any podcasting app or iTunes and do a search for washington huskies and you'll find only two options:

while I love the podcast, +1 to this comment. Make the 1 hour show into 3 20 minute shows to release over the week. I'm not sure of the operational cost of doing that for you guys. but an hour is tough to give my time to, and inevitably when discussed the audience will gravitate towards 1 topic over the 10 others covered in the 70 minute show.doogsinparadise said:I'm too ADD to listen to a 50 minute podcast, but the haters are really pressing on this. dude, just give them 15 minutes each time you drop the kids off at the pool for half a week - you got the show. who is asking you to listen to the whole show in one go? i'm a HHB podcast shit listener myself - it's a win win.
