Quetzalcóatl, or Kukulkan, was one of the most important deities in ancient Mesoamerica. The
deity known as the Plumed Serpent was a mix of bird and rattle snake and his name is a
combination of the Nahuatl words for the quetzal - the emerald plumed bird - and coatl or
serpent.

Tropical Storm Beta and Hurricane Teddy combined to form a Quetzalcoatl Storm reaching from
Texas to Nova Scotia early this week.

Omens may be considered either good or bad depending on their interpretation. The
same sign may be interpreted differently by different people or different cultures.

For example, a superstition in the United States and other countries across Europe
indicates that a black cat is an omen of bad luck.

Comets also have been considered both good and bad omens. Halley's Comet was a
"bad omen" for King Harold II of England but a "good omen" for William the Conqueror.
