    Actually, urban Afghanistan was pretty westernized through the 60s. The true believers were pretty isolated in the rural parts and pretty much just wanted to be left alone. That was true of most of the ME. Once the Saudi's started funding the madrassas and the radical Muslim imams things started to go off the rails.


    Same goes for Iran too...




    People will be making similar points about Turkey 60-100 2 years from now.
    Iran does have some hope. The urbanites hate the mullahs. Trump has them on the ropes. But Biden gives the mullahs hope that the sanctions will be dropped and the exported terrorism can get back to normal. Dems keep rooting for the away team.
