“ If voters pass the measure, the county will collect a tax of 3.9% on personal incomes of more than $165,000 and joint incomes of over $190,000.

The revenue will go into a fund to be disbursed among childcare providers, existing pre-kindergarten programs and private daycares, expanding capacity, according to Universal Preschool Now.

The group expects it will cost $260 million per year to run the program.

If voters approve the measure, program organizers say they’ll spend the first 12 to 18 months working with county officials to develop pilot preschools for traditionally underserved communities. Free programs would expand gradually after that until they roll out to every eligible family by fall 2027.”

Just another 3.9% getting chopped from earners. Taken with the homeless tax, this is 5% of personal income getting snatched.

We’re talking about fucking pre-school, guys.

Why not just come out and tell folks you are taxing them for day care and not disguise it as schooling? Paint, Sing, Nap, Snack- not much more than that.

Same people want the top Oregon income tax rate raised from 10% to 13%. There never is enough money and yet the more money that is spent, education gets worse.

Funny how rewarding failing enterprises by throwing more money at them yields similar results.

    Funny.
