When we first moved to Decatur we enjoyed the Saturday night concerts at the Square. It was a scene out of Andy Griffith with families sitting around on blankets having picnics listening to various bands. After a couple of glasses of wine the moms would all start dancing close to the gazebo and the kids would be climbing the courthouse cannons and pretend to climb the Civil War monument. No one was being harassed, party ended at ten and we all walked home.
The Civil War monument was taken down last month in an effort to make ourselves all better people. That area will be temporarily replaced by a four time felon, drug using, counterfeit money passing George Flloyd.
