Legally, his case was terrible from everything we know. But we don’t know what they paid and we don’t know how embarrassing the email traffic in the newsroom may have been—after all, we agree the WaPo is liberal and elitist, don’t we? I doubt exposure to a judgment had very much to do with the willingness to settle.
