You would be surprised. I played high school basketball with a fringe D-1 kid that probably read at about a second grade level. He once wrote a paper on my family’s computer that my whole family was astounded how little of a grasp he had of writing. It was like a first grader wrote it.1to392831weretaken said:
I have seen interviews with players who I'd bet good money couldn't spell more than a handful of three letter words. I'm actually shocked that academic issues of any kind are a barrier to a D1 scholarship at the pointy end.animate said:
as mentioned previously, and if you truly didn't know, grades didn't pan out ... sounds like he is a 4* for football but he needs serious work in the classroom to be able to play D1.1to392831weretaken said:How does a gigantic dude with offers from Oregon, Tennessee, and both Arizona schools wind up at a community college in Utah? There's gotta be a story here.
There is only so much you can do for some people. They still have to take the tests. You can’t write a perfect paper for them because then it’s obvious they didn’t write it.
It's hard to tell for sure but he looks a couple of inches shorter than Tryon but with plenty of size to pack on muscle weight. Think he ends up at a comparable size?dnc said:Offer Jayden Wayne already
Tryon looks like the edge rusher prototype. We all thought he was a good prospect coming and he's definitely done his part in terms of getting in shape. He's going to put it together on the field too if he ever gets back out there. -
He may never get Tryon's height but his shoulders are every bid as broad as Joe's and his arms are already huge with plenty of room to bulk up. He's going to be absolutely huge even if an inch or two shorter.chuck said:

And of course there's the chance he adds on a little more height. -

Tryon might leave after this season
-
If he does, that would mean he had a killer season, which I would probably takeFireCohen said:Tryon might leave after this season

Yep a Tryon eruption could give our weaker spots the chance to avoid being picked on. If hes forcing double teams consistently and or making the offense run away from his side then I like the the young D Line guys to be able to take advantage. It's really just the LBs that give me pause still.bananasnblondes said:

I cannot believe we won’t get any of the Millen kids. Epic fucking fail. We got Morris instead and some Sac State transfer

I wish we had Cale instead of Morris. I like Hugh a lot. Also, he drops in here, too, from time to time. 😉LongDukDong said:I cannot believe we won’t get any of the Millen kids. Epic fucking fail. We got Morris instead and some Sac State transfer

Still wish we would offer Clay a grayshirt.
-
If he gets buried in the depth chart in Eugene he could always portal back homeBaseman said:

Then we can get clowned by them even more when we make excuses for him being 4th string.insinceredawg said:

THE BEST PLAYER WAS THE ONLY 2023 PROSPECT
While the camp was geared for seniors and juniors, the star of the show was the only 2023 prospect invited, the No. 1 pick in the camp draft, Tacoma (Wash.) Lincoln dual-threat Gabarri Johnson. The No. 2 dual-threat in the 2023 class, Johnson has yet to start a varsity game at quarterback (he was the Abes' backup last year and played receiver), but he's flashed at a number of events and tournaments in the off-season. If Sunday was a teaser to what he's capable of, then the next star signal-caller in the state should be in for a fantastic career. Johnson was our Offensive MVP, playing in four series, throwing a touchdown pass in three of them and just missing by inches a fourth touchdown pass. There is a reason he already has multiple Pac-12 offers and he was the top performer on Sunday.
THE TOP DEFENSIVE PLAYER SHOULD NO LONGER BE IGNORED
One of the main reasons for the camp was to give players who lost out on the spring evaluation period and the summer camp circuit, and now have to wait until March to play, a chance to get good film. Few players have reshaped their body like Samammish (Wash.) Eastside Catholic defensive tackle John Taumoepeau. This spring and summer would have been a golden opportunity for him to show how he looked- and it didn't hurt being at Eastside Catholic, where the No. 1 player in the 2021 class, J.T. Tuimoloau, also plays. With coaches coming though to see Tuimoloau, they would have been able to check Taumoepeau out. He was the Defensive MVP after recording three sacks and two quarterback hurries. Even though his team gave up six touchdowns, Taumoepeau was a problem for the interior offensive line of the Blue. While he doesn't have any offers yet, we anticipate that will change very soon. -
perhaps we should have waited on offering an unranked local DT with no offers. You never know... a different local unranked DT with no offers who played on the same team as the #1 player in America could have emerged as a camp MVPNeighbor2972 said:https://247sports.com/college/washington/LongFormArticle/Ten-Thoughts-From-FSP-ID-Camp-Blue-White-Game-Gabarri-Johnson-Tobias-Merriweather-Tristan-Dunn-Vernon-Adams-Cliff-Avril-152499142/#152499142_1

EC is probably the most watched and followed program in the state, and I'm guessing every coaching staff has tape on Taumoepeau and decided not to offer, too.bananasnblondes said:

Guess we can follow him like we did with Fotu T Leitao (RIP).
