Bryan Penn(15)-Johnson committing tonight

These days, 247 has him ranked in the 150s, a 3*, and his only remaining commitable offers are from UW and DePaul.
Irregardless, we seem to be the favorite to land him. In terms of big men, I'm slightly more excited than when I learned about Gilles Diercksxxx transferring to UW.

His job will be to play rim protector on defense and rebound the basketball. Based on his measurables, if he has some semblance of athleticism then he's a perfect fit for Hop's system.

I'm sure he can learn to step up and let the wing sneak in below him for an easy lay in like Timmins and Dickerson do.HuskyClaws said:His job will be to play rim protector on defense and rebound the basketball. Rebounder and shotblocker. Wont be worse than timmins on offense. Great athleticism.

He's at least not a white stiff. He fucking sucks offensively though.Rapeculturedawg said:Rebounder and shotblocker. Wont be worse than timmins on offense. Great athleticism.

You never know how long it takes for a kid to find their offensive game. And let's be honest, it's not like there are a ton of bigs that are really skilled post players. Worst case is that he's a big in the middle of the zone that makes rim runs and offensive rebounds as a 15-20 minute per game player. Nothing wrong with that.
Pretty sure we have a coach that can develop players now ... so it's not crazy to expect that that he could get better. -
I expect him to be like Paschal Chukwu of Syracuse
-
Athletic 7 footer with good ball skills. If these coaches are worth a shit he's a good get and should contribute.

exactly what I was going to say.Rapeculturedawg said:I expect him to be like Paschal Chukwu of Syracuse

A year ago at this time, he was a top 30, high 4* Center with commitable offers to Kansas, UCLA, Arizona, Oregon, and several others.

He's the body type you need in the center of the zone. His arms eat space and shrink passing windows. With coaching he should be an asset closing out on mid range shooters when teams attack the soft parts of the zone. I like this, it's what the team has to start looking like to truly be effective in the Syracuse 2/3.

7 footer that grabs 2-3 boards a game against high school midgets. Sweet.

Hard to rebound when you don't play.BleachedAnusDawg said:7 footer that grabs 2-3 boards a game against high school midgets. Sweet.
His lack of PT is more concerning than his stats. -
He plays for an Academy that everyone there is going d1.

It’s concerning, but there could be reasons behind it.dnc said:

He’s an athletic 7 footer (6’11”). I still think he was a big get. I doubt he’s ever a star, but any guy over 6’10” that has any skill at all lasts only 1-2 years in college. -
That may be. I know nothing about Wasatch Academy. Even if that is true, when a 7 footer with an incredible wingspan is only getting garbage time minutes in high school, it doesn't fill me with confidence. NWG, MBA, and IT also came from the type of school you describe. They all tore it up for said schools.backthepack said:He plays for an Academy that everyone there is going d1.
Other than Bey, this class has some major projects. Hop has his work cut out for him. -
Turns out they are not worth a shit.ToddTurnerLIVES said:Athletic 7 footer with good ball skills. If these coaches are worth a shit he's a good get and should contribute.
