The danger begins, he thinks, when complex social and political problems can’t be debated any longer. “You get into a revolutionary situation because people can’t hear,” he says. “Can there be a dialogue on important questions, or is there only one thing to say about every question? Are people afraid to say, ‘Well, yes, but it’s not quite as simple as that’? . . . When you can’t do that, you’re heading to a one-party state or a dictatorship of some sort. If one party is always wrong and another always right, why not just have the right one?”

We are already there. Think about how many issues the left no longer even allows to be debated. Shouts of "racism" "sexism" "homophobia" and "Islamophobia" are designed to shut down debate and silence people who you disagree with. How many Trump supporters would never even dream of putting a Trump bumper sticker on their car or sign in their yard?

If you were to vocally express support for Trump here in the Bay Area, in public, I'll guarantee you that you will at least be called a bunch of nasty names and most likely you're going to end up in a fight.

Same in Portland. I didn’t vote for Trump in 2016 but will in 2020, but there is zero chance I’m going to advertise my support.

Hell of an article. The minute one side or the other of a social issue speaks only in absolutes, honest discussions are doomed from the start. Of course there are assholes out there in law enforcement, or anywhere. There are asshole refs in sports too, does that mean there is "Systemic " bias in all refereeing in all major leagues in this country? Of course not. But media speaks of "Systemic " racism in law enforcement or society in general as an absolute statement, which is not backed by real facts. But these statements quelch any debate by the other side.

Institutional racism, systemic racism, environmental racism. All of these are intentionally vague and are used to shut down debate.

With the mob and numbers behind them, people would attack Trump supporters. They don’t say shit or do anything if they don’t have numbers tho.
