I think the most interesting think regarding Germany's inept invasion of Russia is this: had Italy not completely fucked up its own invasion of Greece, Germany would have been able to invade Russia 3 months sooner. This has enormous implications, as German troops, logistics, and supply lines wouldve been in Russia in the spring. Hypothetically, German troops could have taken Moscow in the fall, instead of getting stranded in Russia in the winter.

If Moscow and the main portion of the Russian govt would have fallen in the fall, it gives Germany enough time to send the other half of its army (the better half -- the Russian assault force was the elite half) back to France. They could have had double the number of forces at Normandy to deal with D-Day. The whole scope of the war would have changed, though idk if the outcome would have differed. America had the benefit of not getting bombed into oblivion while trying to supply a gigantic land army.

they lost Stalingrad due to relying on hungarian and romanian troops on the perimeter, and the stubborn refusal to withdraw. Had they had a regular german army on the perimeter, yes, they might have won.
