You've hit upon one of the problems with defund. You usually cut positions and then you end up paying for and demanding huge amounts of overtime if your proposed alternatives to hiring police don't reduce the need for them. Might as well defund the police - they are just photo ops now. They aren't really protecting anything. Saves money in the cities. Gives everyone a reason to move.
