Cato has a thin book but give him an A for effort. He is aggressive and if Donovan somehow assembles a capable offense kids want to play for, Cato -- I'll say-- ends up as one of our better recruiters going forward. Landing Moore, even if he is a local, is Cato's first step establishing street cred. Otton playing himself into a top 3 round selection next year wouldn't hurt, either.insinceredawg said:After serving as a GA under John Donovan at Vanderbilt, Cato took the OL/TE job at Davidson in 2014 under OC Bush Hamdan. That year they went 1-11 and averaged 23 ppg in the brutal Pioneer Football League. Their lone win was against the scrappy College of Faith - Charlotte Saints. Hamdan left after that year to join Petersen's staff and Cato took over as the OC. In their first and only year with OC Cato the Davidson WIldcats averaged 12.5 ppg. After the season he followed Hamdan's footsteps and joined Petersen's staff in a quality control position.
Outside of his lone year as OC, Cato has spent his entire coaching career working under offensive masterminds John Donovan, Jonathan Smith, and Bush Hamdan. How shocking that with this pedigree he has struggled so much on the recruiting trail.

CSB: One of the high-up managers where I work played left tackle for Rice a few decades ago. Apparently he even kicked around an NFL camp or two before hanging it up and putting his engineering degree to work. You can still find pictures of him online from his playing days, and he was fucking huge. Rice listed him at 6-6", 305 lbs.
Nowadays? Bean pole. Said it was a struggle keeping all that weight on to play, and once he stopped eating a million calories per day, his body returned to normal. Wouldn't be surprised if Cato has a similar story. You see it both ways with ex-ball players. A lot of the former super ripped skill position players keep eating like players and get spherical, and a lot of the former linemen stop eating like linemen and naturally trim down. -
Yup. One of my buddies from hs played cfb (started as a DE but they put a ton of weight on him to move to DT). He graduated around 6’6 320 and played for a couple nfl practice squads. Once he retired at age 25, he went from 320 to 235 in 6 months.1to392831weretaken said:CSB: One of the high-up managers where I work played left tackle for Rice a few decades ago.
