In all honesty I think Ryan Adams and Paul Simon are the best singer-songwriters the USA has produced. Townes is in the convo.YellowSnow said:

Over 30 years he’s never made a bad record and he’s never made the same record twice. It’s pretty staggering.YellowSnow said:

Steve Earl has been around since the 80’s but he’s still making kick ass records. His record of all Townes covers is terrific. Saw him play at Easy St Records (RIP) in lower QA about 10 yrs ago.

This, and subsequent exposure to Guy Clark, Rodney Crowell, and Rosanne Cash among others, turned the light on for me...YellowSnow said:Steve Earl has been around since the 80’s but he’s still making kick ass records. Bo Burnun worth checking out? I’ve read his Wikipedia before and he seems like a talented guy. Chris Rock having him direct his special is a pretty big co-sign.dnc said:Best country song in a long tim

I'd actually go with Carole King in the white people division and Smokey Robinson in the black folks portion.WilburHooksHands said:

The music snobs would say Bob Dylan - though I think he pretty well sucks. Just don't like his tunes.

Haven't heard enough of his stuff to give him a full endorsement but he seems generally funny and very much HH worthy.RoadDawg55 said:

Steve Earle Guitar Town is basically my 80's anthem. Hard-Core Troubadour is a close second. Anyone that doesn't like Steve Earle hates America.

Also Sturgill Simpson is the most original artist and songwriter in decades. Love how he views Nashville.
“If the ACM wants to actually celebrate the legacy and music of Merle Haggard,” Simpson wrote in a thousand-word Facebook post, “they should drop all the formulaic cannon-fodder bullshit they’ve been pumping down rural America’s throat for the last 30 years along with all the high school pageantry, meat parade award show bullshit, and start dedicating their programs to more actual country music.”
Simpson’s tirade hit Nashville like a tornado. Reactions varied from shock to outrage to avid support. Simpson predicted he’d be blackballed from the industry. “That’s perfectly fine with me,” he wrote later. “I’m not sure how you can blackball somebody you don’t acknowledge in the first place.”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3je8zwB7ks

I'd take Bruce over Bob Dylan as an appeasementcandidate so the music snobs can maintain their snobbiness.YellowSnow said:

Meh, I guess there is some ok stuff here, but I still think New Country is for hot chicks in the videos and not listening to.

Well I noticed hardly any new country but lots of older country...
good new country is not played on a radio and you have to hunt it out (I am old fashioned and still listen to the radio) -
You won’t hear any of these tracks on the local Mabel country station.LebamDawg said:Well I noticed hardly any new country but lots of older country...
