I agree with this after reading a few accounts of it. He's 19, maybe 20 and probably acted no differently than most his age would. "String" (I like to use nicknames for people I've never met. When he mentions someone or something in a tweet he puts a . before the person or thing. You only need to do that at the START of a tweet, not in the middle of the tweet. For example:
PROPER USE OF PERIODS:
